MTV Develops TV Series Based on Catfish Documentary

Catfish300.jpgIn a fitting development for April Fools' Day, MTV has announced that it is adapting Catfish -- the ambiguously authentic documentary about the most extravagant ruse ever pulled off by a Michigan housewife with a fondness for oil painting -- into a reality series.

Like the subject of last year's documentary, the pilot will "likely focus on social network users who purposely misidentify themselves and the repercussions that occur." The creative team from the documentary, including subject/photographer Nev Schulman, will somehow be involved in the series. Now if only MTV could flip the concept, and somehow punk Schulman into admitting whether or not his Oscar-snubbed documentary had a truth problem.

This would be a good idea...if they would hire actual documentarians with actual research skills.
