Did Jada Pinkett Smith Give the Most Nightmarish Stage Parent Quote Ever?
Willow Smith's still a wee hair-whipper, but that doesn't mean her movie star parents Will Smith and Jada Pinkett Smith aren't thrilled for her potential -- because it means a great new renaissance in their own lives! Read the quote Pinkett gave in UK's The Daily Mail and ask yourself if it's on par with an Toddlers and Tiaras soundbite.
"I like saying I'm going to be 40," she says. "I'm transitioning into a whole other state of being by having a young daughter who's now just beginning her career."
Is this not the very definition of living vicariously through a child? Pinkett's life is upgrading because her kid's "career" is taking off? That's the kind of conditional pride I associate with harrowing TLC shows, the game show whiz-kid in Magnolia, and that song "Perfect" from Jagged Little Pill. Traumatizing on all three counts.
Thankfully, she qualified the statement.
"That's the thing that's difficult for people to understand," Jada says. "This isn't about fame or money. They were still going to have their trials because of who their parents are. As much as I wish I could figure out a way I could protect my children, they have their destiny. I'm not going to put brakes on that out of fear."
"Our family structure is a little different and it's quite hard to comprehend because it's so outside what usually happens in a family, but the paradigm is the same."
"You have Mother. You have Father. Father is protective. Mother is the teacher. Most of the time with child stars, the child has all the responsibilities and the mother and father don't understand what's actually happening to them, so the child can trust no one."
"They feel: 'I have to do this all by myself.' And start to connect to people around them who might not be that trustworthy. But with us, the paradigm stays the same because the child can still be the child with an extraordinary gift."
Some of that is fine, but still: "As much as I wish I could figure out a way I could protect my children, they have their destiny." Defining a kid's destiny through fame is not right. Pimping your kid's "extraordinariness" is weird, too. But maybe these quotes don't tell the whole story -- we can only be sure this is a tragic situation if Willow ever ends up in a remake of Woo.

So the kids are joining the family business. What's wrong with that? Kids work as actors and models all the time. There is no difference in the Smith kids and Dakota Fanning except Dakota doesn't have famous parents (ok and maybe the level of talent.) Nepotism is what drives this business both in front of and behind the camera. I don't know of any celebrity kids that become doctors or lawyers. Maybe some do go into normal professions or trades but I rarely hear of it. Even Dick Powell and June Allison's son is a location manager.
All these celebs are just monsters... they have money coming out of their ears (look up pics of where the Smiths live to understand that -- you'll be amazed), and the only reason their kids are in show business is because of the ride they got. It doesn't mean they have no talent, it means many people with far greater natural talent never see that type of exposure.
What is offensive is they call it 'destiny'. It is completely crazy, those kids have no sense of reality at all. Everything in their lives is studded with money, they can't even see that anymore. She talks like they're into Scientology. Every time I see her (Jada) I just see boundless ambition. People like that are a pest to me. Will Smith used to be so bright... but that is over now.
I have had it with the celeb bullshit, they should be thankful this little societal wealth bubble is letting them live this way. They only should be grateful, not talk about how special they are. WTF...most of you people are a bunch of haters. Plain and simple. A bunch of haters. If any of you could have the fame and influence Will & Jada have I'm pretty damn sure YOUR kids would be doing big things too. Jaden and Willow are talented. There's no amount of money in the world that could "buy" talent. Will & Jada wouldn't be able to push their kids forward in this industry if their kids had zero talent. Those are some charming kids with big personalities and charisma. So no wonder they are popular. Just watch an interview.
I pray that God in his infinite mercies will PUNISH all you gossips. I know that personally, if I were Will or Jada, I would not have allowed my kids such fame, because I would want them to grow up normally and become self made. But, who am I to judge them. They are doing their bests for their kids and you are in no position to make such stinging remarks, out of sheer jealousy against them. Really, if I were Will or Jada, I would not even visit this site. The author here is a devil's advocate; that is if he/she is not the devil himself. If I am to advice anybody here, it would be to JUST SHUUUUT THE FUCK UP!!!
