Joseph Gordon-Levitt To Play Alberto 'The Holiday Killer' Falcone In The Dark Knight Rises

Well, that was quick! On the heels of yesterday's news that he was officially joining the cast of The Dark Knight Rises, Variety is reporting that Joseph Gordon-Levitt will be playing Alberto Falcone, son of Tom Wilkinson's Carmine Falcone, but better known perhaps as the Holiday Killer. So what do we know about Alberto?

Patterned slightly after an amalgam of Michael and Fredo Corleone, Alberto was never allowed into the Carmine family crime business by his father Carmine, who saw his son as ineffectual but also wished to spare his the pain of a life of crime. Alberto decided to break into the family business by rubbing out members of both the Falcone family and other rival families, usually by tying in the murders to a holiday.

The presence of Alberto Falcone might mean that the script is following the "Dark Victory" storyline, where Catwoman suspects that she might be Carmine Falcone's illegitimate daughter. Or it could mean nothing! After all, Christopher Nolan hasn't been shy about picking and choosing what bits of story and canon to follow and which to ignore. But allow me a moment of grief that Gordon-Levitt truly will not be playing the Riddler. God, he would have rocked that part.

Yes, but in who's dream level will he be Alberto Falcone?

  • Remy says:

That sounds like a touching and surprising backstory for Falcones senior and junior. Can we expect flashbacks featuring a cameo from Tom Wilkinson to deepen the character?

As much as I would have enjoyed seeing JGL rocking a skin-tight Riddler suit, I don't think he would have been the best choice. The key to a great Riddler is a mellifluous voice, worthy of Shakespeare. Unfortunately, like so many of his generation, JGL hasn't included classical voice & diction among his finely honed skills.

I think he'll use parts of The Long Halloween & Dark Victory, the former being among the greatest Batman stories every created.
This will work perfectly considering the end of The Dark Knight, with Batman as an outlaw on the run... The Holiday Killings (or whatever incarnation the Nolans construct) will likely begin and Batman will likely be both blamed for them and then go on to try to solve/stop them, while the Catwoman also begins to emerge as a new villain/suspect in Gotham. It's going to be awesome..

As long as Wilkinson gets some voice coaching to improve that horrible accent he tried to do in Batman Begins.

  • Monkey Balls says:

He would have made one FINE Robin, but this'll do.

  • Eric says:

Do you realize that in Batman Canon that Bruce was 25 and Dick Grayson was 12 when they first teamed up as Batman and Robin?

  • douglas says:

    is this confirmed?

Am I the only one who thinks JGL would be an amazing replacement for our beloved and missed Heath? When I saw him in Inception I was amazed of the resemblance between the two. He would surely play the part in a way that will make us proud.
I know, the next film is not about the Joker, but he is a strong character in Batman's world, and he surely deserves a comeback... Maybe a small visit to the Joker in the Asylum... something to make us drool on anticipation for an upcoming movie; they need to be again face to face.
