The New Something Borrowed Trailer: John Krasinski and Ginnifer Goodwin Deserve Better

Are there two more adorable television stars than John Krasinski and Ginnifer Goodwin? The answer you're looking for is, "No." Which makes the second trailer for Something Borrowed all the more disconcerting. After all, how could something that features two should-be-wildly-more-famous-than-they-are stars look so... tepid?

As we learned in the first trailer for the adaptation of Emily Griffin's romance novel, Goodwin plays an unlucky in love NYU student who falls for her best male friend -- only to see her best lady friend (Kate Hudson) swoop in and steal him away in a moment of awkwardly frustrating unrequitedness. (Made up word, check!) Naturally, this leads to an affair, and waiting game about when Goodwin's character Rachel will reveal her true feelings. It all looks perfectly sun-drenched -- the type of romantic comedy you see and immediately forget before the credits even start to roll. Nothing too grotesque; but nothing too encouraging, either.

And that's a shame, if only because Goodwin and Krasinski -- who plays her other best male friend -- appear to have great chemistry together. Couldn't Hollywood have found a vehicle for the two of them alone, without Hudson and this second-rate storyline? These are two stars just pressing to get on the A-list. Let's make it happen! Alas, maybe next time...

VERDICT: Despite the Goodwin/Krasinski charm offensive, pass.

If this is the way Krasinski can break into Hollywood and be a huge star then so be it. I'll watch just because of my love for Krasinski, also fuck Kate Hudson.
