Confirmed: The King's Speech Was Filmed at the Same Location as a Gay Porn

On Tuesday, some fairly "incriminating" photos were released to the Internet showing that perhaps The King's Speech was shot in the same location as a gay porn movie. It has been fairly well documented by the British press that the scenes in Lionel Logue's (Oscar nominee Geoffrey Rush) office were shot at 33 Portland Place in London, but was that address used by adult film director Jonno when he shot Snookered? Movieline contacted Jonno to inquire about where and when the production was filmed.

According to Jonno, his video (which was done for the website UK Naked Men) was indeed shot in the exact same room as The King's Speech at 33 Portland Place, though well before the King of England ever stepped foot onto the set. Snookered was filmed in August of 2008; The King's Speech started filming in November of 2009.

Jonno also told Movieline that the video for Amy Winehouse's smash hit "Rehab" was filmed at the address, which you can see for yourself here.

As for those Snookered/The King's Speech comparisons, here is the only picture (a cropped photo sent to Movieline by Jonno) that qualifies as suitable for work. If you are allowed to look at porn at work, go here for a more, um, detailed glimpse of the Snookered set. That link is decidedly not suitable for work.

Well considering the bromance, the salty language, and all the gutteral noises -- maybe "King's Speech" is actually a sequel to the gay porn.

  • skimpyshorts says:

Oh my gosh . . . they use movie studios more than once to shoot more than one kind of movie? Say it ain't so!

  • MoPea says:

The campaign to try and destroy the movie's chances really have been quite phenomenal.

  • Sage on the Hudson says:

The biggest problem is that the porn film appears to have superior cinematography to "The King's Speech."
Beyond this, perhaps George VI might've conquered his stutter more quickly if he'd practiced his diction with a ball-gag -- or something of similar size and consistency -- in his mouth. Of course, that might've made the Queen Mother Elizabeth jealous.

Are you kidding; this story has all the impact of a wet lettuce leaf. Do you seriously think that filming conducting for one feature, of any genre, at a particular location, has any bearing or impact on the filming of another feature ONE YEAR later? Do you really believe that any intelligent person would care about this? How long a bow are you willing to draw?

ZOMFG!!!! a porn movie shot on the same set.... Would there be an out cry if it was a "mainstream" movie? Grow up people, stop making mountains out of mole hills. Print something more news worthy

  • Yeardley says:

This is relevant for one thing: many people would vote Best Art Direction for that wall that the art director said she created, when in fact these pictures verify that that's just the wall. It's not a Best Picture derailing, and in fact all the ballots were due before this "news" -- but it is interesting in the discussion of what art direction is, and what is award worthy. The room is exactly the same.
That is the civil discussion to be had.
