Sundance Sales Round-Up: Tobey Maguire's Family Hell and Lethal Weapon with Don Cheadle

While we were all picking apart the Oscar Nominations and putting them back together yesterday, the busy distributors at Sundance were forging ahead, keeping their nose to the ground and making serious deals! Well okay, two distributors. One deal each. Fine! Things slowed down a bit yesterday, but it didn't stop the completions of a few high profile sales. Read ahead for the details about Tobey Maguire's descent into a suburban nightmare and what sounds like an Irish version of Lethal Weapon with Brendan Gleeson and Don Cheadle.

The Film: The Details

The Distributor: The Weinstein Company

What is it?: Tobey Maguire and Elizabeth Banks play a married couple whose domestic life starts to unravel after some earthworms and then raccoons show up in their backyard. Jacob Aaron Estes (Mean Creek) directs this offbeat comedy/drama.

Release Date: Unknown.

[Deadline]

The Film: The Guard

The Distributor: Sony Pictures Classics

What is it?: See if this sounds familiar: Brendan Gleeson plays "an unorthodox Irish policeman who joins forces with a straitlaced FBI agent, played by Don Cheadle, to take on an international drug-smuggling gang." This is written/directed by John Michael McDonagh (Brother of In Bruges director Martin McDonagh), and I'm guessing (hoping?) it brings something different to the table, but yes, that sure sounds like an Irish version of Lethal Weapon. Again Hollywood, please remake something else?

Release Date: Unknown.
