50 Tweets From the Burlesque/Golden Globes Culture War

Meanwhile, a crew of jaded pros and other cultural observers weighed in from the distance of the sidelines:

@ditzkoff

From now on, it's the Golden Globe-nominated Burlesque to you, buddy.

@ChrisJ_AOL

Rubbing your eyes repeatedly won't help. Yes, #Burlesque was nominated for a Golden Globe.

@THREsqMatt

Congrats to makers of Burlesque for making me spit up my early morning coffee.

@HitFixDaniel

So tired. But I wanna catch up on my Golden Globe nominees. Is there an 8 am "Burlesque" showing anywhere?

@MattAaronHarper

@HitFixDaniel True Grit doesn't pull a nomination but Burlesque does. Incredible.

@ethanalter

Wow, that list of Globe nominees for Best Musical or Comedy is hilarious...ly awful. A good reminder of why the HFPA is a fraud.

@CourtneyReimer

BURLESQUE just got a Golden Globe nomination. Excuse me while I prepare my Pulitzer Prize acceptance speech for this Tweet.

At least a few filmmakers made their bemusement and/or abject disappointment known:

@gregmottola

okay, Burlesque got a Golden Globe nomination. Whew, I can relax now.

@AuteurMark

Hahahahahahahahahahahahahahah "BURLESQUE" gets a Golden Globe nod! I should quit making movies now.

@TheyMakeFilms

Golden Globes nominations are out: read 'em and weep (or rejoice). One word: Burlesque. (?!?!?!?)

@whoinawhatnow

Burlesque being nominated for a Golden Globe has sent my producer into a fit of film rage, the likes of which I have never seen.

And let's see, who else? Oh! Here are some gay-trend watchers...

@jessicaesquire

Burlesque got a Best Picture Comedy/Musical Golden Globe nod. Was it that bad a year for comedy or is the Foreign Press that gay? Or both?

@peterknegt

Burlesque, Glee, Gyllenhaal, Hathaway, Depp X2, Jolie, Gosling, Franco = Homosexual Foreign Press Association

...and perhaps my favorite bloc of all, the international observers whose comments barely need translation:

@anamariabahiana

E eu achei que EU estava de porre.... Red? Burlesque? e por aí vai...

(Translation from Portuguese: "And I thought I was drunk .... Red? Burlesque? and so on...")

@carolcristhie

Burlesque indicado? HAHAHAHAHAHHAHA!

@_duduxxo

Burlesque no globo de ouro kkkkkkkkkkkkkkk morto

@aMonsterInMyBed

Quiero que Burlesque gane el globo de oro como mejor musical.

@edu_lozano

visto el éxito de Burlesque, el bio-pic de Justin Bieber huele a Oscar

@natshploc

Burlesque teve 3 indicações e mesmo assim tá flopando

@Carol_CCF_

    This is the same category where The Hangover won last year, correct?
    How are these awards relevant again?

    One of the Twitter-ers have a good point - the nom is for the fact that it's a musical at ALL, not for the quality of the performances. I could tell fifteen minutes into Burlesque that it was Coyote Ugly set in the Moulin Rouge, but I still enjoyed it. Let's be honest, were any of us really expecting Burlesque to be a GOOD movie, or just a pretty one?
