Gift Guide: The AT-AT the Size of a Pony

Somewhere, in the archives of Eldon, Missouri's local newspaper, the Advertiser, there's a photo of a 7-year-old me with my favorite toy at the time, the All Terrain Armored Transport (AT-AT) from The Empire Strikes Back. For this gift guide, Hasbro sent me the updated version of the AT-AT -- which may be about the same size that I was at age seven.

The first thing about the new AT-AT (All Terrain Armored Transport) is that it's just so big. It stands over two-feet tall but that description doesn't do the enormity of this thing justice. Measuring diagonally, like you would a television, it's about the size of mounting a 6-inch-thick, 30 inch flat screen on your wall. Like it's counterpart from almost 30 years ago, it makes battle noises as the chin guns shoot. Unlike the prior version (other than pure size) this AT-AT features shooting missiles (that when I tested cleared about three feet) and an included driver and Speeder Bike (made famous during the Endor scenes of Return of the Jedi). This will be the closest you ever come to owning the real thing. I mean, for better or worse, it's almost as big.
