The Trailer for Hall Pass Welcomes Jason Sudeikis to the Land of Movie Stars

Though he has been summarily wasted on Saturday Night Live this season, Jason Sudeikis has had a pretty solid 2010: He's dating January Jones, parties with the cast of Mad Men and was the only decent part of Going the Distance. (Yes, that's including Charlie Day.) Still, breakout stardom has alluded him thus far...something which will probably change once Hall Pass comes out next year.

Oh, sure: You could mock Hall Pass for being another bromantic comedy, with shrewish female leads (Christina Applegate and Jenna Fischer get the dishonors) and '70s classic rock tracks. You could be above it all; or, like me, you could embrace this trailer for all the funny.

Directed by Peter and Bobby Farrelly, Hall Pass finds Sudeikis and Owen Wilson playing a pair of married friends who get a week off from their wives to do whatever they want. Predictably, they want sex, though judging from how the pair attempt to pick-up women (for example, Sudeikis makes a chloroform joke using a stack of cocktail napkins), that is easier said than done.

It's only a trailer, but here are just a few reasons why Hall Pass could be great: The Farrellys, who are now actually underrated in their comedic wizardry (The Heartbreak Kid is a cable classic); it's clock movie, which is always great for comedy (see: The Hangover, Superbad); and Hall Pass features supporting turns from JB Smoove, Stephen Merchant and an almost unrecognizable Richard Jenkins. Plus, this line of dialogue from an exhausted Sudeikis: "Freddie ty-ty." The man is a coming a star!

VERDICT: Sold.
