Liam Neeson Will Replace Mel Gibson in The Hangover Sequel

liamneeson_120.jpgThat was fast. Less than 24 hours after Mel Gibson was tossed overboard by Todd Phillips in an effort to keep the cast of The Hangover sequel from outright revolt, a replacement has been named. Liam Neeson, come on down! "I just got a call to do a one day shoot on Hangover 2 as a tattooist in Thailand, and that's all I know about it," Neeson told Variety. The actor was invited to take the role by his A-Team co-star, Bradley Cooper. Excited? Yeah, didn't think so. [Variety]

  • Well, if he finally whips out that lengendarily-prodigious member on screen, I'm there. Really, Liam, we (and by "we" I mean mean "I") are really tired of wondering about your cock but never seeing it.

I find this so mean and tacky (and frankly ignorant) of Galifianakis. Mel gibson isn't a bad person: He's a sick person. I'm amazed by how many people seem incapable of realizing that. The privately recorded rantings of someone who is seriously mentally ill and in desperate need of medical treatment should not be aired publicly and should not be held against them. Mel Gibson has admitted publicly to being diagnosed with severe bipolar disorder, and the recordings of his outburst demonstrate the veracity of that diagnosis. He's simply very sick, and that shouldn't prevent him from being employed on a movie, nor should it see him strung up and vilified in the media.
This whole thing has reflected very poorly on the ethics and the intelligence of everyone who has been so eager to destroy a sick man on account of his celebrity. It's convenient and titillating, but it's wrong. The irony is that while I'm sure plenty of people are rushing to congratulate Zach for his courage and principles, he's actually just being an intolerant bully, and that in the future the same scorn that is now reserved for racists and bigots will be directed at those who are prejudiced towards people suffering from mental illness. For now they remain one of the only groups left that it is socially acceptable to stone in the public square, especially if they are unlucky enough to have a public profile.
