Watch Zach Galifianakis Unwittingly Get the Between Two Ferns Treatment

Here's something I learned today: When Zach Galifianakis does a Between Two Ferns, it's pretty funny because we know it's not real -- even though we try to pretend that it is real. When an actual journalist tries to pull this same stunt, it's sphincter clenchingly awkward -- especially at a press junket.

So, yeah, imagine Galifianakis's surprise when while promoting It's Kind of a Funny Story he was asked questions like, "Compare and contrast this film with all of the other films that have been made," by a reporter from something called Good Morning Texas. When Galifianakis asked Gordon Keith to clarify, the list was cut from all films to The Wizard of Oz, Sling Blade and Lost. Ladies and gentlemen, next time you're thinking, "I wonder why Movieline, or any other outlet for that matter, didn't interview whomever," this is why.

Wow. That's like the time when I tried to take Right Said Fred's shirt. He started pummeling me mercilessly, while all I could scream out was "You said you were too sexy it for it."
    Talk about awkward.

  • Galifianakian says:

I think this Texas fellow was fantastic. Maybe he even pulled off a better Galifianakian persona than Zach has been as of late.
"Did ya'll know each other before you met?" is my favorite utterance.
Hooray to any and all who feel like making a more open mockery of bullshit press-junket style celebrity narcisism consumption culture.

  • Mike Ryan says:

The three "movies" he listed, The Wizard of Oz, Sling Blade and Lost, made me laugh out loud.

  • The Pope says:

    Sling Blade and Lost.
They were remakes of The Wizard of Oz, right?

  • HwoodHills says:

Compared to most questions they get asked (by the foreign press) like: "What make you funny?" and "How hard it be to be in movie with the Iron Mang?", I'm sure it was a nice distraction.

  • GALIFIANAKIAN says:

Also, the ".. Lost, though I guess that's kinda known more as a tv show now," mumble.
Because it's just so deep in implications.

  • Mike the Movie Tyke says:

Maybe there should be a fern in between them?

  • Peg Entwistle says:

I actually thought the presenter was hilarious. I wonder if Galifiankis was so numbed from the nonstop same old questions that he was dazed to get something different (or irritated that he was expected to improv on demand). Either way, a huge improvement over 99.9% of junket sit-downs.

  • AJ says:

The interviewer is the great Gordon Keith. He may just be the funniest guy you have never heard of. He is on SportsRadio 1310 AM The Ticket in Dallas every morning. Very funny and very clever guy.

  • AJ says:

    check out Gordon's website @ gordonkeith.com
and this morning he said he is going to get a shirt made that says, "Don't Forget to Smell Emma"

  • Hollyhock says:

This Zach guy is a complete jerk and is totally responsible for getting Mel Gibson kicked off the Hangover 2 cameo role. Will NEVER watch a movie this idiot is in.

  • danger_jones says:

Oh....I don't know about Zach getting him tossed. I think it was his drunken anti semitic tirades that really sort of poured the cement to the gravestone of his career. Also, why are you so upset by that? It's a CAMEO in a SEQUEL.

He tried to cover his ass and say that it was fake marijuana but I don’t believe that. I’m actually kinda glad that he did this stunt because I feel like it just fed into the existing stigmas around marijuana use. Don’t get me wrong though… I think that marijuana should be legalized, but I’m just sort of happy that prop 19 didn’t pass. I have a feeling that the demographic that doesn't smoke primarily "because it's illegal" is going to start experimenting with it, and we're constantly going to have a bunch of old a-holes crashing their cars because they don't know how much they can smoke/can't handle being high. I’d probably say only 10% of the people I know that smoke can drive normally while high, and those people have been smoking for god knows how long. I realize that even if marijuana was legalized that it'd still be illegal to drive high, but there’d still be a percentage of cars on the road that would be driven by these newbs who don't yet understand the technicalities of driving while being stoned out of your mind. For instance, a car ran over my mail box about 2 years ago. My security camera at my home recorded it so I got their license plate, and it turns out that the driver was high and claimed that it was their first time trying to drive on it (you can even see in the video that he’s smoking a joint while he’s driving. I even saved a picture… home">http://www.homesecuritysystems.com/">home security cam marijuana idiot). I’m sure over time that the demographic of “new” smokers will eventually know their limits and when they are not able to drive, but at the moment, I’m glad prop 19 failed because I wasn’t looking forward to buying a new mailbox.
