Eastbound & Down Moral Compass: Kenny Powers Takes the Mound...Again

Ever since Kenny Powers called his sister-in-law -- who was housing him after his major league baseball career dried up and his money ran out -- a "church b*tch with dead eyes" completely unprovoked, it was clear that the moral compass of Eastbound & Down's main character was broken. Now, that the series is in its second season, Movieline feels that it is its duty to recap each episode by recounting each horrific Kenny Powers offense and seeing which way the HBO misanthrope's busted compass was pointing at the time: Either laterally (eastbound) or morally south (down).

· Kenny does a key bump of coke before his first Mexican baseball practice. DOWN

· "The best way to get a new team on your side is to trash the last team you played for," explains Kenny. "Talk shit about how their fans suck and how their women have pancake titties." Kenny verbally harassed instead of physically harassed his last team, and for that, he gets credit. EASTBOUND

· "How much does it exactly cost to buy a Mexican baseball team?" Kenny jokes. "Ten bucks and a burrito?" Kenny does not actually try to buy a baseball team with ten bucks and a burrito, and this earns him another lateral move on the moral compass. EASTBOUND

· Kenny meets a Mexican baseball team owner who pulled the plug on his own mother. Kenny acknowledges that this decision was a "rough" moral quandary and not a respectable life choice. EASTBOUND

· Kenny accidentally shoots his former assistant, Stevie, in the shin, cleans the wound with margarita mix and demands that his neighbor nurse help with the "emergency 911 situation." Believe it or not, this is actually an improvement for Kenny Powers, who last season would have knocked Stevie out, stolen his wallet and then left him to bleed to death. EASTBOUND

· Before playing his first game, Kenny warns his team not to be jealous: "There is no "I" in team but there is a "U" in c*nt. So don't be little jealous c*nts." DOWN

· Kenny charges $22,000 worth of beer, Jaeger, magnum condoms, whip-its, lube and business cards to his assistant's credit card. DOWN

· Kenny puts Steve on a truck full of illegal border-crossers. DOWN

· Kenny uses the American flag to make suggestive gestures at an elder Latina in the audience, throws the flag on the ground. DOWN

OVERALL: Despite Kenny's wound cleaning skills, his moral compass was still DOWN this week. Maybe less c-bombs in week three, KP.
