Mel Gibson Out at WME as Hate Tapes Released

mel-gibson-racist-rant.jpgAnd for your Friday news dump: Those nasty racist comments Mel Gibson spat over the phone to his ex-girlfriend are officially live. And they're... angry? In related news, Ari Emanuel has made it officially known that he will not have Gibson on his roster any longer -- officially, unofficially or otherwise. Raise your hand if you didn't see this coming. Hey! I can't see those hands!

The troubled actor-director -- currently embroiled in an apocalyptic break-up and the "pack of n***ers" scandal that comes along with it -- can now finally be heard on tape blowing up in spectacular fashion at ex-girlfriend Oksana Grigorieva. Dark as it is, it's tough to determine where Gibson's rage crosses the line into despair; there's something lost in his voice, or maybe it's just him catching his breath before the next sortie. Either way it's toxic and will not necessarily enliven your Friday night social rituals. Unless you are a lonely neo-Nazi, in which case off you go.

Curious timing, then, with word that GIbson is exiting WME. Of course, he suffered an arguably more crushing blow last week when his long-time agent Ed Limato passed away after a long battle with lung disease. The former ICM titan came along with the William Morris furniture after its merger with Endeavor, bringing his fistful of A-listers along with him. This despite Emanuel's vocal condemnation of Gibson after his anti-Semitic rant in Malibu in 2006, a bit of history that reportedly ended up with Gibson "not officially represented" by WME at the time of Limato's death. Interesting. Nikki Finke also notes that the star's departure is not officially attributable to Limato's passing, but rather the publicity fallout from his Grigorieva bust-up. The release of the tapes is not cited, but you know what to do with two and two.

Anyway! TGIF, Mel?

I hope you feel better now...

My sentiments exactly. I am seeing how people, men especially, do not give a hoot about women getting abused. I think a lot of people do not read the body of the report on the tape and are simply reacting to the headline. The folks who are defending Mel seem to think he "simply" used the so-called n-word and do not realize he was resorting to a deeply entrenched image of black men as roving rapists ready to pounce on the helpless unprotected white girl.
It seems folks have forgotten how black men could get killed and were killed for looking at a white woman---In some parts of the south if a white woman was raped, mobs would raid black homes or ambush black men and lynch them--this is not a little thing that Mel Gibson has stirred up here-- We can say this does not happen now, but heck, it was not that long ago that it was illegal for interracial couples to get married in most states.
Maybe in all fairness, younger white guys might be more realistic and do not have that image--Mel Gibson's age is really showing with that revealation.

It is very interesting to hear some people defending Mel Gibson's right to use the dreaded n-word. Some even praise his courage in using it--I don't know why, it is not like he faced Danny Glover and used it, or anything!--What he did was use his biggest scare tactic (the black rapist(s))to scare his woman straight. Where is the braveheart in that, I ask.
Anyway it is good to have this out there in the open for discussion--maybe the myth/stereotype boogeyman fear that some people hold of black men as roving rapists of white women (I think of the white groupies of black entertainers and athletes as I write this...) will begin to fade a little.

Michael, they are not married. He was trying to crush her confidence by telling her that he looked cheap and that he was embarrassed by her appearance-- Telling her he would allow her to live in the house but was not going to give it to her I guess was his way of letting her know who was the boss and to remind her of that who had the money called the shots? At the same time he wanted to scare her from dressing provocatively, maybe even from going out without him, hence the use of the rape scare...

  • Dane says:

The man is human! He doesn't like homosexuals, drinks, swears, and uses the dreaded "N" word. So what? How many other guys do the same thing? Ummmm,,,,me, for one! And let's not forget, this was a "private" telephone conversation between a man and his woman during a breakup. Guess what kinda things I called my wife when I found her cheating on me and we broke up? Hint: I wouldn't want that conversation recorded and later played for the media! Kinda reminds me of what happened to "Dog the Bounty Hunter" when he used that terrible "N" word over the phone and was recorded by one of his own family! Almost ended his career. But Dog is a cool guy and he bounced back, and so will Mel!

  • whiteman says:

Hey Njob, I mean Blow-job, up yours HOMOBOY! GO BACK TO THE THIRD WORLD TOILET YOU AND YOUR FAMILY CAME FROM, DIE MOTHER F**KER DIE!.

  • whiteman says:

I love MEL he's swell, speaks like a true white man. It's not hard to pick out the liberals in here!.

  • abey says:

This is the state of America today. Gibson is just being truthful. Hypocrites should meet terrorists.

  • FRANKIE says:

GET OFF THE MAN 'S BACK HERE IS A GUY WHO HAS TO PUT UP WITH A LOT OF BULLSHIT WITH JEWISH PEOPLE AND NIGGERS IN THE MOVIE BUISNESS.
WHO IN A STATE OF RAGE HAVE NEVER SAID SOMETHING ABOUT JEWS OR NIGGERS.
WE ALL KNOW THESE PEOPLE ARE A PAIN IN THE ASS.
JUST BECAUSE HE IS MEL GIBBSON HE'S DIFFERENT FROM US, THE WIFE BEATING THAT'S BAD, I CAN'T SEE A GUY HITTING A WOMAN NO MATTER HOW MUCH THEY PISS US OFF.

  • JessicaL says:

You've got to be kidding me if you find it acceptable for any race to make fun of another race. Your comments don't justify his actions, but clarify your ignorance to be on the same scale as Mr. Gibson's. It doesn't really matter if he feels superior to another race but that he felt the need to use one to incite fear into the mother of his child. What a horrible horrible thing to do. Even if he was set up, he was the one who put the nails in his own coffin by using such incriminating language. She didn't coax him to use the n-word he did it on his own.

  • Joe says:

No one should ever talk to another person like that. If someone is that full of anger and hatred, they should walk away until they can control themselves before saying such hurtful things. Words already said can't be unsaid and will only come back to haunt you.

  • Martha says:

The fact is that regular people mess up all the time and in the heat of an arguement say things that are stupid. If you're a star, people are not as forgiving. These people, eg. Tiger Woods, Michael Jackson and Mel Gibson, are NOT GODS!! They need help! They are too stuborn to get help, because maybe they just don't get that they have a real problem or maybe, THEY think there're GODS!!!!!
Mel Gibson is one of my favorite actors, but he is really ruining his life! Question, does Mel really believe he has a real problem? We can clearly see that he does, but he needs to want to see it too! Was Mel drunk when called his girlfriend? I bet you he was! Mel has a big problem and he needs to take ownership of it!! Only Mel can make the choice to do something about his problem!!
Regarding Mel beginning a good Christian, No, he is not being a good Christian! I love the Mel. He is one of my favorite actors, however, I have to know the difference between a good or bad actor, a sober or a drunk, a winner or a loser, a good Christian or not. Let's pray for Mel!

  • EZ says:

what is it with people that they have to tape everything and expose it to the world when they finally decide to plunder their ex? It's no wonder people are tired of relationships. People in the limelight should remember that most of their mates are only looking for an easy buck. If they can't get it spreading their legs they will go for the throat and in some cases provoke a verbal confrontation. I am sick of dirty laundry. I don't look at photos. and it is society that needs help. Hey losers.....go make it on your own dime

  • EZ says:

Liberal? WTF. I am a Liberal but I have never and will never call an opinion political. Obviously you must have some ignorant dilemma going on in your head that you would bring political affiliation into this. Get on track pal and realize we are all in the same boat. what a clown

  • TB says:

I would have thought with the name thinkingperson I wouldn't need great detail in the comment. Sorry. Alcoholism isn't a sin and I never said it was. Moderation is the key and not letting it take over our lives. Yes it is a TREATABLE disease and needs attention. Take it one step ahead and some believe it falls under the glutony of the seven deadly sins. He should also read Matthew 7:3.

  • ready2retire says:

Its True! The blacks can call each other anything they want but the minute a white person says nigger its such a bad thing! Come on get real the blacks have used the race card for far too long and get away with it. Look at the OJ trial the country was truly divided, and always will be. Mel was just venting and anyone who says they haven't said things they regret is only lying to themselves. Because he is a celebrity this woman took advantage of that. He is a great actor and we shouldn't care about his private life. He thought that he was having a personal conversation with this woman. He did not say those things in public and because she choose to release private information just shows how low this woman is. I for one am on Mels side if he would have said those things in public it might have been different, but this was suppose to be a private conversation between two people having an argument. I'm glad that my private conversations are not made public and everyone else should all be greatful that theirs are not either. I'm sure that there are many many people out there black or white who have said alot of bad things to people that they regret, but it is not made public. He was setup and this woman knew exactly what she was doing. I hope Mel recovers from this because all we should care about is his acting ability and not his private life!

  • jusathot says:

Dear Readytoretire: You sound so sincere that I feel for you. Please do not blame black people for this. This is a fight between a white man and a white woman. He was abusive-she taped him. What is going on here is the exposure of an ugly secret. I think white people are embarrassed to hear an idol spew such a highly charged racist comment. It is not his use of the word nigger that is the point--it is the suggestion that black men run in packs seeking a white woman to rape. You know how many innocent black men were killed in the past because of that, it is no small statement.

  • jusathot says:

    In your dreams!

  • jusathot says:

There are Niggers giving people shit in the movie business? Wow-we've come a long way, I didn't realize...

  • Tony says:

    Got a mirror!

  • Tony says:

Once again, Helen, you appear to be condoning Mr. Gibson's behavior. Have YOU looked inward to examine why that is? Again, look in the mirror, I mean, really look. I don't believe that you will, because you just may not like what you find!

  • Tony says:

No, everyone has not said racist things in anger as you've alleged. You can only speak of yourself, and that, my dear, calls for self examination on YOUR part!

  • Tony says:

A very well thought out, truthful comment. I thank you!

  • Tony says:

I think that blacks, women, Jews, gay, and all other groups of PEOPLE who Mr. Gibson has offended should be fully aware of what he says or how he feels. Those offended groups should have the OPTION to decide whether or not to spende THEIR hard earned money supporting his career projects.

  • Tony says:

Historically, the word "cracker" did not have a derogatory racial connotation like the "N" word. It was used by slaves to describe the person who beat them with a whip. A whip "cracks," thus "a cracker." But, I do agree that in today's society that word is racial and has no place in our society.
