5 Reasons to See the American Idol Tour This Year
There's a good chance American Idol's finale didn't thrill you this year. You may have tuned out early in the season when plenty of decent talents were voted out of the Idol megadome, or you may have balked at Lee DeWyze, one of the show's pitchiest dawgs, who became a judges' favorite and ended up winning the competition. Still, that shouldn't stop you from seeing the Idol tour live this summer, even if the announcement of eight canceled tour dates seems to reaffirm your apathy. There are five solid reasons to see this concert, and I'm not just saying so because I've already bought my ticket. Spoilers ahead.
1. There were memorable performances from season nine
Didi Benami's "Terrified," Andrew Garcia's "Straight Up," Siobhan Magnus's "Paint It Black," and Crystal Bowersox's "Come to My Window" were season-high moments, and they're all relived and expanded here. Whether or not it was the most watched season, season nine had the most inventive arrangements in American Idol history, and these four performances typify when off-kilter can be on-point.
2. A tribute to a past Idol great
As indicated in a backstage video, the traveling cast performs a lovely homage to Kelly Clarkson in the form of a rendition of "My Life Would Suck Without You."
3. "Take a deep breath and get real high"
Crystal Bowersox delivers a powerhouse version of 4 Non Blondes' "What's Up," along with three other songs. Here she performs the hell out of Linda Perry's sole recording triumph on The Tonight Show. Anyone would pay to hear this voice.
4. DeWyze on high
As I've heard from several people who attended the Idol finale, Lee DeWyze sounds a lot better in person than he does on television. His closing version of Kings of Leon's "Use Somebody" is a showstopper, and his voice is (and I would be the last one to admit this) a genuine stadium-filler.
5. Finally, the right song choices
The Idol tour helps rectify one of the five biggest complaints I had about Idol this season: poor song selection. On tour, Siobhan Magnus trades the schmaltz of Whitney Houston's "When You Believe" for No Doubt's "Spiderwebs," Michael Lynche forsakes Michael Jackson's sappy "Will You Be There" for Justin Timberlake's "My Love," and Katie Stevens gives up "Baby, What Do You Want Me to Do" for Christina Aguilera's "Fighter." That's fire in place of fluff, ladies and gents -- just in the ingredient that Idol needed most all season.

I think you neglected to mention another very good reason to see the Idols Live Tour. In my opinion, the only reason actually. Casey James. He was pegged by Randy Jackson to be the BEST musician ever to hit the stage at AI, and he is not disappointing fans on the tour in the least. He flat out tears it up on The Black Keys, "I Got Mine." I believe you need to edit your article to include the multi-talented Mr. James. Just because the Idol judges turned his performances into a joke with their ill-conceived humor, doesn't mean he's not talented. He's the total package!
Casey James!! The best reason EVER to go to this concert!!
But you failed to mention the star of the whole show - Casey James. He rocked the stage and the crowd went crazy at Jones Beach tonight - that's quite an oversight on your part.
Louis, you seemed to have forgotten Casey James. The only reason I watched the entire season of Idol and put up with the judges' foolishness. He rocks out from what I've seen and heard.
Siobhan Magnus rocks
A memorable performance on the show you might have mentioned was Lee's The Boxer. I've never heard such an emotional connection with a song. And I think Treat Her Like A Lady was the night that changed Lee's life.
have you been reading reviews and watching youtube clips of the tour? if so, you must have known by now that CASEY JAMES is making so much buzz... unless you're from mars...
If only there was some way of knowing if someone like, oh I don't know, Casey James for instance was doing well on this tour. Perhaps someone could comment on here and let us know.
Why forget about Casey? Casey came in 3rd and nobody mentioned him!?! He is the best and I know he will do well with his career. So, I want to know - Why didn't you mentioned Casey here !?!
Another good reason to see the show is CASEY JAMES!!!! He rocks that stage.
Have you actually SEEN a show?? The best and nearly only reason to fork out that kind of money for an AI concert was to see Casey James!!! He stole the show! His guitar was practically on fire! I think failing to mention Casey is either a MAJOR oversight or sneakily deliberate.
I am with the majority of posters here, why not mention CASEY JAMES???? From what I have seen and read he blows the roof off of each stadium he plays at. I will find out for myself on 7/25 in NC. Also, did you not watch AI9???? In your list of memorable performances you didn't mention either "Jealous Guy" or "Don't" by Casey James, which, if you remember, where awesome, awesome, awesome!!!!! The best performances I saw all season. Too bad you put your own bias into this article because if Casey would get the credit he deserves, readers will know that there is a real reason to see the tour this year because there is a bonefide Rock Star among them. Shame on you!
Oooooops, Louis Virtel, MAJOR OOOOOPS!!!! How can you fail to mention C.A.S.E.Y.....J.A.M.E.S.???? The man is this period in history's MUSIC LEGEND!! He's still gonna be HUGE in decades to come....we are witnessing the birth of a brand new Super Star ~ that's like failing to mention Elvis or the Beatles!! Best you fix this quick ~ you don't want to go down in the M/L history books as the biggest naaana for overlooking this awesome musician! FIX IT VERY QUICKLY!!!!!!!!!!!!
From what I can tell, if they got CASEY JAMES to do thoes concerts AI have cancelled, they'd have sell out's for every one!!!
The neglect of mentioning the AI superstar and real winner Casey James is just too obvious and you do need to edit this article and stop putting your personal favorites only up just because you can. There is no one more talented and getting more superior reviews now during the tour than Casey! You will now get tons of comments stating the same thing over and over, you so fail at good writing skills. Casey is showing what all he can do now and not what AI told him to do or limited him on doing.
did you really watch the concert yourself..or these all your personal choices? where are you living man? can't you see the real STAR of the show? ill spell it for you..C A S E Y J A M E S...
What about Casey James???? You must be kidding! He is the best part of the show..did you actually SEE the show?
Wheres aaron kelly here as well? why no mention of his awesomeness on the show? lame, lame..:(
This article is completely BOGUS!!! CASEY JAMES!! Please go watch some Youtube videos or something because you obviously didnt see this show! I GOT MINE..look it up!

Aw, the Casey James fan logged in as 14 different people just to spam this article. How cute. Casey doesn't actually need that kind of publicity. Let his music speak for itself.
Dear Mr. Louis Virtel,
Please amend your article as of July 8, 2010 to include CASEY
JAMES as a Major Reason to See the Idols Live! 2010 tour! To neglect
mentioning Casey is unacceptable to Everyone on this Planet.
We expect you to write an addendum mentioning Casey. Please
refer to all the positive comments above as reasons, if you don't
already know Casey's Explosiveness, ...his guitar-godliness.....
Shame on you Mr. Virtel.....but just fix this and we will
all be happy again......that's what Casey wants.....for all
of us to be happy.......thank you.....LV
Fucking Freaks. You all need to knock CASEY JAMES' dick out of your mouths and pull it together.
