EXCLUSIVE: Justin Theroux Says Zoolander 2 is Still a Go
If you could feel a jolt of fanboy dismay this week, it's probably because of a pair of tweets that accused Paramount of holding up progress on sequels to Zoolander and Anchorman. First, Anchorman director Adam McKay implied that the sequel to his 2004 film was dead due to what Deadline later reported was a budget impasse of up to $30 million. Then, Ben Stiller got into the action with this ambiguous tweet: "Ron Burgundy and Derek Zoolander looking to appear in sequels. Both men destitute, without means or intellect to fund their own comebacks."
Say it ain't so: Could Zoolander have strutted down his last catwalk? Movieline rang up Zoolander 2 writer/director Justin Theroux to find out what's what.
According to the multi-hyphenate (who also wrote this week's Iron Man 2), the Zoolander sequel is still very much alive. "Today and yesterday I was with Ben, and today, we continued to break story," he said. "I have not gotten word from anyone to put pencils down, so I am continuing as though we are proceeding with that film."
So what led Stiller to post his nerve-jangling tweet? "I wish I could answer that! Honestly, I don't know," he said. "You'd have to ask Ben. I have no clue what those things mean. I've heard them, too. We're operating as though it's absolutely going."
Though a first draft of Zoolander 2 is not yet written, Theroux confirmed that Owen Wilson is expected to return and Jonah Hill will play the film's villain. How did it feel to get the nod from Stiller to take over directing duties? "It was fantastic," he said. "Obviously, because he will be on set, I will be seeking his counsel. I think he's a fabulous, fabulous director, truly."
For more from my talk with Theroux -- including his thoughts on Iron Man 2's unorthodox writing process and what he has planned for the Zoolander sequel -- stay tuned.

Theroux should be alright, so long as The Cowboy has final casting approval.
Wow, that looks like a lot of fun dude.

Outstanding Winchester...I hope Theroux only sees The Cowboy one more time.
Could not agree more, well said
Zoolander is a modern comedy classic at this point. I am unsure about how well a sequel would work though. Especially without Stiller's often under appreciated direction, and with Jonah Hill. I don't understand his appeal. Really fat dude who yells and sweats? That's all I get from him.

Time is going to reveal whether the sequel complements the first part or not..........
But still we should hope for the best
I think that the sequel will complement the first part,,manifesting same humor and decency......
Zoo-lander 1 is one of the craziest movies ever made... Whoever wrote the script must have been great writer....
NACHOS are always good because although you don't "make" them, you could make tons of toppings to go on them such as homemade salsa, homemade melted cheese with jalapenos, maybe some hot sauce or so other flavorings. You can serve Turkey meat, hamburger meat, tons of veggies that you can cut up...uuummmm..chili you can make. there are so many options. Same with hot dogs, just make tons of toppings, or even baked potatoes are a good one too. WHO doesn't love nachos, hot dogs or baked potatoes. At least it will cover meat lovers and vegetarians a like. Good luck on the fund raiser, BTW what are you raising the funds for?
Garrison Keillor~ God writes a lot of comedy the trouble is hes stuck with so many bad actors who dont know how to play funny.
Good job, post is fantastic
Luxury Charters is a great place to find a perfect boat and a perfect
destination. It can be a bit boring if all the time during
your vacation you are cooped up in the yacht no matter how luxurious it
is. These charters are strongly built keeping into mind safety of all those who will
board the cruise, even the ones who take the trip as adventure.
