Glee Does Madonna: Rating the Leaked Songs

glee_singing.jpg

Are you tired of Glee yet? Well, too bad! The Fox series continues to permeate the cultural zeitgeist and it doesn't show any signs of stopping. And if you believe the hype, the all-Madonna episode airing Tuesday is going to be the biggest television event ever. Including the Fox-sanctioned Jane Lynch video for "Vogue," four of the ten songs from the episode have leaked onto the Internet in the last couple of days. And, not surprisingly, they're pure Glee specials: overly earnest, overly produced and -- somehow -- pretty great. How do they rate? Click ahead to listen and find out.

"4 Minutes"

Lest you think Lea Michele gets all the songs, here's Amber Riley (Mercedes) and Chris Colfer (Kurt) singing "4 Minutes" with the backing of what one can only assume is the McKinley High School marching band. And while the original song is bit of the dud, the Glee version is pretty fantastic, if only because it gives mostly ignored Kurt a chance to actually sing.

Gleegasm Rating: 7 out of 10.

"Like a Virgin"

Something about a bunch of teenagers singing "Like a Virgin" with the knowledge of how Quentin Tarantino read the song is a bit creepy. That aside, this isn't bad. Astute listeners will obviously notice the voices of Michele, the Robot Known as Cory Monteith and Matthew Morrison, but the second verse is all Jayma Mays (Emma), and Naya Rivera (Santana) gets to sing at the end, too. Glee really is about giving everyone a chance! Kinda.

Gleegasm Rating: 5 out of 10.

"Like a Prayer"

Another "everyone gets to sing!" number. If this doesn't close the episode -- with everyone wearing their Glee-approved Converse sneakers -- call your local congressman to complain.

Gleegasm Rating: 9 out of 10.
