Hollywood Ink: Orlando Bloom Goes Indie, Plays Doctor

· Orlando Bloom will lead the cast of the thriller-ish indie drama The Good Doctor, starring in the title role of a frustrated physician who schemes to keep a young female patient in his care after taking a liking to her. Courtney Ford, Michael Pena, Troy Garity and Taraji P. Henson co-star; I hate to look forward to Sundance 2011 with the most recent iteration so close behind us, but, well, if you had to start programming today, here's your first safe bet. [THR]

Speaking of Sundance, there's backlash, more (potential) dealmaking, and the rest of Hollywood Ink continued after the jump.

· The sensational, arguably truth-challenged Sundance documentary Catfish is said to have found devotees in J.J. Abrams and Paranormal Activity producer Jason Blum, who've organized a test screening of the film on the Paramout lot today for the studio to see how it plays. Meanwhile, Brett Ratner and Relativity boss Ryan Kavanaugh are said to be interested in the film as well -- and they don't even need a screening. The "next Marlon Brando" will tend to have that effect on people. [Deadline]

· Meanwhile, all of this speculation has Patrick Goldstein whining: "Isn't it time for the media to get over its Sundance movie sales obsession?" Well, considering that two of today's Best Picture nominees were bought out of Park City in 2009, and Sundance acquisitions account for 11 total nominations in the top eight categories, and three out of the last five Best Documentary Feature winners premiered at Sundance, I guess the answer would probably be "No." [LAT]

· Olivia Wilde is at the front of the pack of actresses hoping to saddle up opposite Daniel Craig in Cowboys vs. Aliens. Negotiations are ongoing; a deal is expected soon. [THR]

· Another indie thriller/drama! This time Greg Kinnear is set to star with Alan Arkin and Billy Crudup in The Convincer, about a desperate insurance salesman who gets into a pickle with a rare violin. Jill Sprecher (Clockwatchers, 13 Conversations about One Thing) co-wrote and will direct. [Variety]

Patrick Goldstein is trying to play insightful by bucking conventional wisdom. Expect an article soon from him where he declares the high quality and deep cultural relevancy of "Jersey Shore".
