Avatar's Deleted Sex Scene, Straight From the Script

If you think the Vatican hates Avatar now, just imagine how much they would have liked the original version of the movie that included pre-marital tentacle sex! Now, fortunately, you can: The movie's deleted sex scene between Neytiri and Jake is included in James Cameron's full script, which 20th Century Fox has posted online. We've excerpted the relevant parts of the hookup below. Now might be a good time to break out that blue greasepaint, if only to obscure your blushing.

EXT. WILLOW GLADE

He puts his face close to hers. She rubs her cheek against his. He kisses her on the mouth. They explore each other.

Then she pulls back, eyes sparkling.

NEYTIRI

Kissing is very good. But we have something better.

She pulls him down until they are kneeling, facing each other on the faintly glowing moss.

Neytiri takes the end of her queue and raises it. Jake does the same, with trembling anticipation. The tendrils at the ends move with a life of their own, straining to be joined.

MACRO SHOT -- The tendrils INTERTWINE with gentle undulations.

JAKE rocks with the direct contact between his nervous system and hers. The ultimate intimacy.

They come together into a kiss and sink down on the bed of moss, and ripples of light spread out around them.

THE WILLOWS sway, without wind, and the night is alive with pulsing energy as we DISSOLVE TO --

LATER. She is collapsed across his chest. Spent. He strokes her face tenderly.

JAKE

Neytiri, you know my real body is far away, sleeping.

She raises up, placing her fingertips to his chest --

NEYTIRI

This body is real.

(she touches his forehead)

This spirit is real.

Her eyes are luminous, honest, infinitely deep.

NEYTIRI

When I was first your teacher, I hated all Sky People. But you have also taught me.

(whispering)

Spirit is all that matters.

She lays her head down, against his chest, listening to his heartbeat.

NEYTIRI

I am with you now, Jake. We are mated for life.

JAKE

We are?

NEYTIRI

Yes. It is our way.

(innocently)

Oh. I forgot to tell?

He rouses up, making her look at him.

JAKE

Really, we are?

NEYTIRI

We are.

JAKE

It's cool. I'm there.

He lays his head down, and her arms enfold him, sheltering him as he sleeps.

I can tell you why this scene was cut:
    1. The movie is already 2 hours and 42 minutes long, they don't want another 10 minutes added to it. They don'y want it to be gone-with-the-wind 3 hours long, as it would be if they added all the scenes that were cut.
    2. It might make the rating higher, which means less people would watch it: less money.
    3. The movie is fine without it. We all have an imagination (or don't you?).

  • Tsuki says:

Dude, the scene was cut because if they kept it, it would have meant that they had "sex" with every animal and plant.
But yeah, this is also really dumb.

  • lynette mccarter says:

i thought avatar was a very spiritual movie, if you missed the message that the white man is only interested in what they can make money with or weapons they will go to any lengths to get it at the expense of another race or way of life. you only have to look back at the history of this country to see what we did to the native americans who were here minding there own business but we didn't like it so we took it away and forced them onto reservations. this country has alot of karma to pay for and it will come. we spend to much time with coloring the message with making the problem "sex". everything procreates whether in this world or others. anonymous

  • Albert says:

The written scene reads as if Neytiri knew that Jake's avatar wasn't his real body. But when watching the film, I got the impression that she had no idea that he wasn't really one of the "blue people".

  • Jossie says:

I'm with you! I got that impression too. But it was really hard to know if the clan knew or not that Jake was one of the sky people. I think he tricked them of beliveing that he was from another clan, but that make little sense too, when the clans would have had at least similar rituals and so on... That's the only part in the movie that I don't get, but maybe It'll be clear the next time I see it.

  • JAB says:

From a marketing POV I understand why this scene had to be cut, but I agree with Albert it would have thrown the knowldege if the Na'vi were onto to him yet plot device off.
It reads nicely. I'd like to see it on the DVD.

  • Jordan says:

I think they cut it cuz 10 foot tall blue aliens screwin woulda creeped people out

  • Emma says:

But who would be creeped out?? Jake and Neytiri looks very human to me! Except from the tails, noses and ears. . there are no huge differenses I think! They are both beautiful and sensual! Jake is so damn sexy and more gourgeous than any human man ever will be! I´d do him!!!!! 😛

  • Kendra says:

I live in Canada and I saw that scene, without the dialogue, except Neytiri did say "We are mated for life" aslo, It wasnt that bad. It's not like you could actually see anything, I thought it was really sweet.

  • Ryan says:

I don't know where you got your information, mate, but snogging sure as hell isn't doggy. It's making out.

  • Amelee says:

I think you people take this way to seriously. If it is truely what could have been in the movie...so be it. They're words. They weren't in the movie lame or not. Everyone has opinions on it. It seems interesting how some people seemed to be getting angry over this. Really? Is this all you have to do? Read random things about Avatar and obsess over them? Move on...

  • Bill Michael says:

I just want to know, are we going to get it ALL in the specially boxed Director's Cut when it comes out on DVD or BlueRay...?

  • tylor says:

I think they cut it cuz 10 foot tall blue aliens screwin woulda creeped people out

  • Anonymous says:

Are you serious? You really don't know what the Na'Vi meant when they called Jake one of the 'Sky People'? Did you miss the part when the Chief said that they had tried to teach other 'Sky People' before? They didn't think Jake or Grace were from another tribe ... they knew the 'avatars' were part of the people with guns who were destroying the land.

I read the comments and I have some things to say abot the cut Avatar "sex" scene. I have seen a lot of reviews, that James Cameron took part in, on Avatar and I just want to make it clear:
    1. James Cameron deleted the scene, because some people may refer do it as "sex" (it si NOT sex) and then it woud turn out that the Na'vi are having sex with animals! Actually they have sex just like humans do.
    2. I think that the scene was very sweet and it doesn't have to be some deep thought in the dialoge. I mean he isn't some philosopher - he's just a marine. So stop complaning about the scene that it's not a great dialoge and shut up!

    damn straiqht 🙂

  • Yasmin Imada says:

This vibrator is inexpensive, powerful, and easy to carry. Also, it is pretty durable and even water resistant. And it is a good item for beginners because it is small and discreet. I actually keep one on the coffee table in my living room and offer free massages to my female guests 🙂 Another good idea is to put it in your pocket and turn it on while dancing. Then if you dance close your partner feels the vibrations!

  • elki says:

This scene seems pretty vital in defining how deep their feelings were towards eachother.
I mean, for me, in the scene were Neytiri saves Jake's human body by popping the oxygen mask over his face, and she cradles him, I wondered if she found him gross, like a puny human or something. I wondered where the chemistry is, because all we see throughout the movie is her smacking him, then later thinking hmm. Yes. Kissy-kiss mate mate.
As for the sex factor, ehh. As a chick, I read this and thought it sounded very romantic, with the exchanging of words. Many points were lost with Jake's shit line, but reading over what others have had to say about it, I would have to agree; Jake had terrible lines throughout the movie but Sam Worthington did a great job in creating the character and delivered the lines comfortably, instead of them sounding like a whip on your ear. I'm sure Jake's lines fit with the character, and that Sam did a good job of them.

  • What is he really speaking about in article? Aritotle words of itellect suggests that we as humans must always accept what is the truth of the situation and appreciate life.

  • Sydsustain says:

Eh, I don't know... this really isn't material that would be censored, I mean, real censoring would be with the "Unmentionables" in it... these are just tentacles. But I do agree with the 'It's cool, I'm there' being crap. They would've probably changed it if it DID show in the movie. Except, I can imagine Jake back at Earth kicking himself because he just realized he had sex with an other-wordly slut! XD

  • Sydsustain says:

I meant to say worldly above, sorry.
