Ten Inadvisable Movie Performances From the Past Decade

7. Haley Joel Osment as Walter in Secondhand Lions (2003)

Did anyone ever see this movie? Something about jungle cats and gay uncles? Apparently it wasn't terrible, and yet it definitely marked a turning point in Osment's trajectory. 'Twas puberty, killed the heat.

6. Rupert Everett as Robert Whittaker in The Next Best Thing (2000)

Rupert Everett will be the first to tell you that coming out of the closet will kill an actor's career. What he might not mention, however, is that doing it in the precise way he chose to do it -- by playing bosom knock-upper to upwardly mobile yogacist Madonna -- brings the most swift, but painful, sleep.

5. Thora Birch as Empress Savina in Dungeons & Dragons (2000)

"Hey Thora! You just starred in the most breathlessly praised, zeitgeisty movie about suburban ennui of the decade! What are you going to do next?!" "I'm going to Troll-Infested Virginland!"

C'mon, Second Hand Lions was a very good show. Instead of this list, it should be added to your 10 Movies that you missed in the last 10 years.

    Woah woah woah woah woah.
Everyone that I know loved Second Hand Lions. And if no one saw it, then how did it affect Haley's career?

I don't know about you, but Linda Cardellini wasn't exactly a wash of an actress after Scooby Doo. She continued on ER until the show's end, was in Brokeback Mountain, and (my favorite) she was especially funny in Grandma's Boy. But I'll agree with everyone else from that movie...

  • Matt Fondel says:

Boat Trip may in fact have been a bad career move for Cuba Gooding, Jr as an AMERICAN actor. However, everything Boat Trip seemed director more toward a European Audience rather than toward American sensibilities. If Boat Trip had been done first by a French Company, most A-List American Male Actors would have been fighting to do the Americanized version. Cuba was very brave to do that role and his performance will eventually be appreciated by more people.

I also highly recommend Secondhand Lions. It's a wonderful, funny movie, and Hayley Joel Osment held his own with two very talented veteran actors. I don't know why Hayley's missing from the spotlight lately, but it can't be because of Secondhand Lions. Maybe he's too busy doing voicework for the next Kingdom Hearts game (he was the voice of Sora).
