George Clooney Isolates the Only Remaining Twist On TV Cop Dramas: Elvis-Impersonating Detectives

Network line-ups are bursting at the seams with detective dramas, set in almost every U.S. metropolis and centering around every imaginable form of crime fighter, from the hard-boiled FBI detective to the bored hipster to the hard-living Oklahoma City floozy/detective and supernaturally-assisted mothers. So just how do you engineer a new strain of detective drama when nearly every precinct and private eye persona has been explored? Allow Academy Award-winning actor George Clooney to show you.

TNT has greenlit the Fantastic Mr. Fox star's drama series about "an outstanding but unusual Memphis cop who moonlights as an Elvis impersonator and lives with his mother." The pilot is being produced by Clooney's Smokehouse Pictures and Warner Horizon, and written by Liz Garcia (Cold Case) and Josh Harto. Clooney's producing partner and Good Night and Good Luck co-writer, Grant Heslov, will join Clooney, Garcia and Harto as executive producers.

That folks, is how it is done.
