11 is Enuf For Tyler Perry

Tyler Perry's ensemble opus For Colored Girls Who Have Considered Suicide When the Rainbow is Enuf is barreling through the development process, which naturally means you-know-what: Casting rumors! And the typically press-shy Perry was happy to start them while promoting his new film I Can Do Bad All By Myself, name-dropping an 11-woman dream team of Halle Berry, Angela Bassett, Ruby Dee, Cicely Tyson, Maya Angelou, Oprah Winfrey, Thandie Newton, Kimberly Elise, Beyoncé Knowles, Mariah Carey and Alicia Keys. He reportedly confirmed that six of the actresses had said "yes," but declined specify which six. Keys is in for sure, but I can't be certain about the rest: Berry's got sharks to fight and everybody knows Oprah doesn't do choreopoetry. Suggestions? [AOL Black Voices]

I was hoping Shania Lathan would be in it, she was in one of Tyler's previous movies.
Please, no Beyonce. That woman does not care about acting as a craft she cares about winning awards so people will go on about how fabulous she is.
Has Maya Angelou ever started in a movie?
The other ladies sound fine, although I can't see Oprah doing this film.
Am I the only one hoping they change the title of the play for this movie?

  • Martin Lawrence and Eddie Murphy in fatsuit and drag. It's what Tyler Perry's Tyler Perry has always dreamed of.

ok her name is Sanaa Lathan and yes she would be a great person to be in this movie. as far as beyonce no she's not the best actress but colored girls has a wide range of characters and so it needs a wide range of actresses to play the many parts. And as for Maya Angelou she has been in several films: There are no children here(with Oprah), madea's family reunion, etc. she has also written and directed Down inn the Delta. I think no matter what it's good this movie is being made we need to see it! And let's not forget Oprah was nominated for an oscar for the color purple!

  • La Diva Sim says:

What makes you say Keys in for sure? Before Tyler Perry the original three actresses cast in For Colored Girls was: Angela Bassett, Sanaa Lathan, Alicia Keys. Then earlier this year it changed to: Halle Berry, Angela Bassett, Jill Scott. And now that Tyler Perry is on board he wants this huge ensemble which means the real actresses wont get nearly enough screen time. It would be a crime if the likes of Beyonce and Mariah Carey are in the same movie, taking screen time away from Halle Berry and Angela Bassett. WTF?

  • This is an old post but that's a pretty strong statement about Beyonce. How will she garner any positive awards and notoriety withouth working to achieve it? Don't you think that she puts in quite a bit of work to succeed? You didn't like her performance in Cadi Records? Definitely grown over the years in my opinion. Tieuel Legacy!
