Break Out Your Accordions: Mad Men Renewed For Fourth Season

In a stunning development reminding us of that one time NBC renewed The Cosby Show, AMC announced today that it has picked up its ugly duckling of a series Mad Men for a fourth season. This, after consecutive Golden Globes and last year's Emmy for Best TV Drama, and a ratings-record for this year's premiere. And sure, a protracted contract squabble with show creator Matthew Weiner prior to Season 3, but that was nothing, really. Official comment after the jump.

From a statement received earlier today at Movieline HQ:

"We always saw the potential for Mad Men, and believed in and supported the series because of our strategy of developing cinematic television that complements our library of the most entertaining movies, from every genre, on television. It's been extremely gratifying to see the show develop in to such a pop-cultural phenomenon with such a passionate fan base," said Charlie Collier, president and general manager of AMC. "With this early fourth season renewal, we're excited to let our audience know the captivating world of Sterling Cooper will be back on AMC again next year."

Naturally, this means we'll be renewing Movieline's Mad Men Power Rankings for another year as well. A quietly overjoyed Sally Draper is already plotting her bloody midseason coup d'etat.

Sweet! Now how much are they going to pay Jon Hamm for season 4? I think his contract is up at the end of Season 3...

I dont get the 1st sentence. Back in the 80s was there doubt that NBC wouldnt renew TCS? Ive always read that TCS was a success right from its premiere. In fact, didnt it only end bc NBC moved it to Thursdays & @ that time Simpsons was on on Sundays on fox ?
