British Partygoers Honor Eyes Wide Shut With Commemorative Orgy

Cast interviews are nice and all, but when you really want to make an impression about Eyes Wide Shut's 10th anniversary, let's face it: It takes an orgy. A British estate owner learned that the hard way this week when 350 guests descended on his property for a masked ball modeled after the scandalous centerpiece of Stanley Kubrick's film. Maybe the party promoter's £65 ticket price and Web site warning "COUPLES & FEMALES ONLY! No Single men!" should have given away what would happen next, but for the story's sake, I'm quite happy it didn't. Details after the jump.

Reports from Great Britain say Grahame Bond rented his 17-acre Somerset estate to Dutch adult-entertainment promoter Little Sins, collecting £9,000 (nearly $15,000) for the group's use of its stately 17h-century manor Haswell House. Which was all great until around midnight when the guests started, well, fucking.

"The party started normally and it all seemed pretty harmless -- people were drinking but everyone was very well behaved and pleasant," Bond told the Daily Mail. "The whole group were dressed in these great costumes and it looked exactly like something out of Eyes Wide Shut. But then one of the organisers announced: "The moment has come. The spell has begun" and everyone began kissing and having sex. To say I was shocked was an understatement."

Bond sent a pair of 19-year-old staffers home before calling the police, who empathized but said they lacked the authority to bust up a private party. And thus was affirmed just the latest proof of Kubrick's far-reaching influence: High-end European orgies. Could it really have ended any other way?

Read another first-hand account here -- I presume they cut the original film's big password confrontation and hooker-sacrifice for length.

[UPDATE: Hey! There's video! Need I mention it's NSFW?]
