I am obviously a thundering shill for Madonna whether she's making terrible movies with her ex-husband or making terrible movies with Griffin Dunne, but there's something about W.E.'s self-serious, accidental telenovela that's not even watchably bad. It's just humorless and overlong -- though Andrea Riseborough is fabulous as the polarizing Wallis Simpson. In a new 24-minute documentary about Madonna's big feature, the director and her cast do their best to sell their watercolored biopic, and I tell you what? They do a good job. Don't ask me to explain it. But James D'Arcy still looks like Anthony Perkins, so shut up and start crying in adoration.

Abbie Cornish didn't get to sing in the theatrical cut of Zack Snyder's Sucker Punch, but may soon be sharing her musical talents with the world. The Australian actress, who covers the May issue of Esquire UK, told the British mag that she'd like to record an album when her schedule opens up. "I would love to play here in Los Angeles... and record an album," she said. But Cornish won't be just any actress releasing a vanity album; the self-admitted hip-hop fan, who has been DJing since her teen years, has been performing with a crew for years. Clicking and unclicking his pen with nervous energy as he spoke, director Zack Snyder took Movieline back to the first smattering of ideas that ran through his brain when the concept for the girl-power action fantasy Sucker Punch first took root: Lobotomies. Planet of the Apes. Loss of self. The magic of music. And perhaps the most important takeaway of all from Friday's PG-13, pop culture-mashing fever dream: the idea that, simmering beneath the film's fantastical burlesque numbers and bloodthirsty rampages is a subversive desire to turn the tables on the very moviegoers who least expect it.

How do you even begin to wrap your head around Zack Snyder's latest epic, Sucker Punch? The anachronistic pop fantasy mash-up follows '60s-era insane asylum inmate Babydoll (Emily Browning) who plots escape with four fellow prisoners (Abbie Cornish as Sweet Pea, Jena Malone as Rocket, Vanessa Hudgens as Blondie, and Jamie Chung as Amber) by going into a dream world within another dream world to fight dragons, zombie Nazis, and evil nightclub pimps.
