Will Devil Give M. Night Shyamalan His Chance at Redemption?

The Last Airbender handed M. Night Shyamalan some of the most withering reviews of his career (if not a terrible box office intake). As we all know, though, the director is fond of surprise twists, so could Devil -- the Paranormal Activity-ish new thriller from his vanity imprint The Night Chronicles -- give him a feel-good third-act reversal?

The It's Kind of a Funny Story Trailer: Zach Galifianakis Flew Over the Cuckoo's Nest

If you were worried that watching Zach Galifianakis act "serious" -- ie; no baby masturbating jokes -- for his role in It's Kind of a Funny Story would be tedious and contrived, the first trailer for the film provides some relief: It really isn't.

Ranking the Inevitable Christian Bale/Mel Gibson Rant Mash-Ups

It was only a matter of time before some enterprising* individuals got some Christian Bale in their Mel Gibson -- one big supercollider of alpha-male angst, venom and decibels headed for the ultimate explosion. YouTube Nation has wrought at least six to date, with surely more to come; Movieline, meanwhile, has gathered and judged them like the trailblazing (if predictable) pop artifacts they are. Your mileage may vary; tell me if so. Need I say they're all NSFW?

Ray Bradbury: Mel Gibson Too Busy with 'Russian Girl' to Adapt Fahrenheit 451

You know who are awesome? Old people are awesome. Especially old, brilliant, prolific artists who don't give a damn what inside information they drop in public -- or how they drop it. Take Ray Bradbury, the legendary 89-year-old author whose Fahrenheit 451 film rights belong to... Mel Gibson. Awkward! And of course Bradbury has a funny (if brief) story about it, which he recently shared via Skype with a crowd in Chicago. Video after the jump.

VIDEO: Michael Bay, Transformers 3 Commence Blowing Up Chicago

Washington, D.C., wouldn't have them, but Chicago was more than happy to welcome Michael Bay and his Transformers 3 road show downtown in recent days. The residency has yielded a bounty of ruinous, explode-y riches for photographers and videographers alike, the bulk of which arrived online over the weekend at a few different spots. (There's a great slideshow at the Chicago Tribune's site, for starters.) But for both scope and sheer hilarity, only one amateur video -- and its hard-charging star, Optimus Prime -- really underscores what Bayhem means to the Windy City. It's after the jump.

Michael Musto's Man on the Street: Lesbian vs. Predator

Fresh from braving the gyno-storm of The Twilight Saga: Eclipse, our man on the street, Michael Musto, further dipped his oars in the lady-filled waters of The Kids Are All Right. Michael's pressing question this week is, in a steel cage, no-holds-barred grudge match, who makes the better lesbian: Annette Bening or Julianne Moore? It seems like Benning's got the edge, but Moore's not without her fans. But are there a few stereotypical sapphic trappings that both Moore and Benning lack in the movie? Click through to find out.

Now Playing: Stephanie Zacharek's Video Review of Despicable Me!

To hear Movieline's chief critic Stephanie Zacharek tell it, this is a truly sterling weekend for new movies: A pair of releases crested just shy of the prestigious 10-out-of-10 mark, including The Kids Are All Right and the dandy animated entry Despicable Me. You've heard (and read) Stephanie's take on Kids, but what exactly makes Despicable Me worthy of this glory? As the great Warner Wolf would say, "Let's go to the videotape!"

New Social Network Teaser: Sony Finally Stops Its Relentless Detagging

It may not be the imminent full trailer, but the second teaser for David Fincher's The Social Network is so clever (and so much better than the first one) that it's been frustrating how determined Sony was to stamp it out whenever it popped up online this week. Finally, now that the NYFF-tied announcement about the film has been made, the studio has finally given the teaser its official online unveiling. Watch, enjoy, and "like" it.

Celebrate True Blood's Emmy Nod with a Shirtless, Man-Licking Alexander Skarsgard

We have to admit, we didn't see True Blood's Emmy nod for Best Drama coming, but now that it's happened, shouldn't we all get drunk and lick a dude's back in celebration? No? Damn, someone should really tell Alexander Skarsgard.

The Jack Goes Boating Trailer: Philip Seymour Hoffman Goes Swimming

If today was Sundance Movie Trailer Day, then why wasn't it listed on my Google Calendar? Anyway, here comes the trailer for Philip Seymour Hoffman's directorial debut Jack Goes Boating, a Sundance fave that answers the question: Why was Philip Seymour Hoffman wearing dreads during his red carpet appearances last year?

VIDEO: Watch Charlton Heston, Man of Leisure, Explain the 'X' Rating

It's Friday! The drinks are flowing early at Movieline HQ East, where the discovery of a vintage Charlton Heston/MPAA ratings advisory on YouTube has left even the cleaning lady in a state of transfixed awe. It's not just the corniness of it all; in fact, Heston's earnest, ambassadorial zeal for explaining the G, PG, R and X ratings (this thing is at least 40 years old) yields a bittersweet taste of Hollywood's Golden Era. Or that could just be the cheap gin. And God only knows who decided to shoot this on a tennis court. Soak it all in after the jump.

The Welcome to the Rileys Trailer: Kristen Stewart Meets Tony Soprano

When you hear the words "Kristen Stewart Hooker Movie," the mind reels with possibilities of scandal and exploitation. But then you see the new trailer for Welcome to the Rileys, a Sundance hit from director Jake Scott (a.k.a. Ridley Scott's son, thus fulfilling the "You Must Mention Ridley Scott Once Per Day" quota here at Movieline), and you realize it's anything but what you would expect. Even with the presence of Tony Soprano. Who's ready for some derivative family drama?

Why is the New Machete Trailer So Glum?

Machete is supposed to be fun, right? After all, when that fake trailer for Robert Rodriguez's low budget Danny Trejo vehicle played in the middle of Grindhouse, and then that hoot of a teaser poked fun at Arizona a few months ago, I'm pretty sure we were supposed to smile, eat some stale popcorn, and get psyched. So why does the new full-length trailer play it so straight?

Now Playing: Stephanie Zacharek's Video Review of The Kids Are All Right

Guess what, everyone? It turns out you don't have to wait 'til Inception for the second high-quality entry in the summer-movie sweepstakes: A week before Chris-mas, here come Annette Bening, Julianne Moore and Mark Ruffalo to shatter the art house in The Kids Are All Right. It's so good. It's like Toy Story 3, but with middle-aged lesbians, their adopted kids and a cutie-pie sperm donor where the CGI playthings go. It's actually even more like Inception, except we've seen it. God, I'm so breathless with how good this movie is. Gaspcall911. Take over for me, chief critic Stephanie Zacharek!

The You Will Meet a Tall Dark Stranger Trailer: Woody Allen Squared

For a brief period during the last decade, it seemed like Woody Allen finally -- finally -- had his fill of making male actors ape his most famous mannerisms and tics in an attempt to recreate the glory years when Allen himself was able to carry a film on his slight shoulders. Some pointed to the change of venue from New York to Europe for this renaissance, and that may be true -- from Match Point to Vicky Cristina Barcelona, the Woody-fied leading men were slowly being weeded out of his oeuvre. But then Whatever Works landed -- and apparently, the rest is history. With that in mind, say hello to the international trailer for You Will Meet a Tall Dark Stranger, which offers you two Woody Allen stand-ins for the price of one!
