EXCLUSIVE: Grey Gardens Director Michael Sucsy on How Drew Barrymore Won Him Over

Admit it: when you heard that Drew Barrymore was being cast as Little Edie Beale in HBO's Grey Gardens (based on the story of Jackie O's eccentric cousins that was immortalized by a 1975 Maysles Bros. documentary of the same name), you were a bit skeptical that she could pull it off. It's OK--so was writer/director Michael Sucsy. He talked to Movieline about how the project got started and what Barrymore (who went on to give a knockout performance) did that finally impressed him.

The Verge: Paul Rust

Ever watched a film and wondered, "Who's that?" Now you'll know before you even have to ask. Welcome to The Verge, Movieline's weekly interview with up-and-coming actors on the verge of a serious career boost.

You may not know Paul Rust by his face, but he's definitely got some notable aliases. You've heard, perhaps, of Quentin Tarantino's upcoming World War II film Inglourious Basterds? He's one of 'em. Maybe you've seen the trailer for the Hayden Panettiere high school comedy I Love You, Beth Cooper? Yup: he's the "I." We spoke to the 27-year-old actor about his unlikely trajectory from Los Angeles sketch comic to leading man--and the unlikely weapons training he received to play one of Tarantino's avenging Jews.

"Crazy," said Sacha Gervasi, the band's friend and former roadie, who took in the scene with Reiner's bandmate Steve "Lips" Kudlow. "Just fucking crazy."

The One-Page Screenplay: Rhett Reese & Paul Wernick's One Small Step

It's time for the latest installment of Movieline's One-Page Screenplay, the project meant to revolutionize the movie industry, mainly by reducing script coverage to a Twitter-surmounting two words (examples: "Is good." "Will Smith?" "Harvey hates"). Today, we've got a contribution from the writing duo of Rhett Reese and Paul Wernick, who breathed life into the upcoming "zom-com" Zombieland.

Reese and Wernick know a thing or two about creating compelling alternate worlds -- after getting their start on the reality-tweaking Joe Schmo Show, they've since scripted Venom and Earth vs. Moon -- and we think you'll agree that the setting of One Small Step is their most fantastic yet. Enjoy!
