Hunger Games Trailer: Jennifer Lawrence Volunteers, Woody Harrelson Wigs Out

Lionsgate debuted its trailer for The Hunger Games today, purposely only teasing the hyper-anticipated film's first half so as to preserve all the surprises of the, uh, bestselling book series. Anyway, that's fine: If you're new to the story, this set's up Gary Ross's adaptation pretty well: Jennifer Lawrence is Katniss. Josh Hutcherson is Peeta. And Woody Harrelson is Haymitch -- or some Halloween simulacrum thereof. Click on through and have a look.

The Hunger Games opens March 23, 2012. I think they're on to something.

VERDICT: Sold!

Looks like complete ass. Except for Wes Bentley's awesome beard -- that's going to be legendary.

SOLD!!...this looks incredible.I've read the series and the trailer has captured the look of D12, the Capitol, Katniss(!!) and everyone/thing else so I am very confidant that the film will as well. I can't wait for the film!!.

What a bummer. Looks really amateur in the directing. No atmosphere or mood. Bright sunny days that should be gray. Bad CG. Terrible costumes. Really poorly blocked out. I read the first part of the first book and this just looks kind of cheap. Doesn't have the feel and look associated with the descriptions in the book. Lawrence looks like a poor choice. The acting was subpar. Elizabeth Banks seems wrong. The wigs look terrible throughout. Just seems like amateur hour all around. This could really have been awesome, but instead it looks more and more like Twilight 2, 3, and 4. Cheesy when it should be authentic. Twilight 1 was pretty cheesy, but at least Hardwicke brought a certain level of mood. That left after the first film with Hardwicke's exit.
I haven't finished read the first book, but I was surprised by the supply grabbing scene towards the end of the trailer. I mean, there's obvious ties to Battle Royale, but the different supplies given to each kid... now it really seems like just a rip off of that movie/concept/original story that BR was made from. Not trying to be a BR crybaby. I understand people come up with similar ideas sometimes, but there seems to be a lot more in common than I originally anticipated.

Looks really awful. Hope Wes Bently has that beard in every film he features in now.

I really enjoyed the first book in the series (haven’t yet read the other two) but from what I read it seems like this is a pretty solid adaptation of it. Personally I’m looking forward to seeing this in the theaters!
