Safe House Trailer: Denzel Washington Tells Ryan Reynolds There is No Safe Word

It's still too soon after Green Lantern for me to embrace Ryan Reynolds as a rugged protagonist. When we erase his comic sensibilities, we're left with a geometric jawline, bleak opals for eyes (like expensive Frosty the Snowman), and an anxious self-seriousness that Van Wilder would've mocked. In the trailer for Safe House, he dons the hero face again playing a hunted man alongside Denzel Washington, who is killing it here. Trailer after the jump.

First of all: I will not stand for Vera Farmiga in generic serious-face roles anymore. Source Code? That is enough.

For a movie that seems to demand angsty nothingness from Ryan Reynolds, Safe House seems like an opportunity for Denzel to hit us with charisma. I'm happy about that. I sort of always miss Pelican Brief Denzel, you know? We'll see if he returns on Feb. 10, 2012.

If you are going to write please constrain your personal envy of this man out of the context of your article. He was good as Hal and the "Green Lantern " had tons of other people involved. This trailer looks "SWEET" Can you give the man any credit.

I don't know about Pelican Brief. Denzel here is more Training Day to me, and simply awesome. Reynolds is always a bit like a pretty, but bland mannequin.

Louis, seriously..... Reynolds bland? Have you seen 'Buried'? You amateurish movie critics keep bringing up VanWilder as if it were a stigma. Since you are judging a performance on the basis of a trailer, it would be more honest to call your... uh .... critique '2-nanosecond verdict'. Many European critics have cited Reynolds as one of the ten best actors (internationally) of 2010. I am beginning to think that his being physically terrific is seriously damaging his career.
