Friday Box Office: Apes Rise Against The Help and Final Destination 5
Consider this the big screen version of gridlock. The simians from Rise of the Planet of the Apes headed a crowded box office on Friday night earning $7.8 million in ticket sales, though both The Help ($7.5 million) and Final Destination 5 ($7.3 million) stayed within striking distance of the No. 1 spot. As for the other newcomers, 30 Minutes or Less earned enough to land in fourth place, while Glee: The 3D Concert Movie took a slushie to the face in sixth. Your Friday Box Office is here.
1. RISE OF THE PLANET OF THE APES: $7.8 million ($85.1 million)
2. THE HELP: $7.5 million ($17.3 million)
3. FINAL DESTINATION 5: $7.2 million (new)
4. 30 MINUTES OR LESS: $4.5 million (new)
5. THE SMURFS: $3.7 million ($91.7 million)
6. GLEE: THE 3D CONCERT MOVIE: $2.8 million (new)

You have got to be kidding me!! You CANNOT top the original and I hate computer generated movies with a passion.. Who would pay good money to see this crap??
Not to judge a movie by it's cover (or, I guess, trailer...or its actual book)...but with The Help are we looking at The Blind Side-style box office success buoyed by self-satisfied white people "learning about black people" through the comfortable and safe prism of white people?

Your reactionary comment indicates you haven't actually watched Rise of the Apes - this renders your opinion completely invalid.
Judging a movie you haven't even seen and basing your complaint on nothing more than nostalgia is just about the weakest platform on which to base a complaint or argument.
The purpose of the film is not to "top" the original as it is not a remake.
Hollywood has not had an original idea in a decade. I am so SICK AND TIRED of "remake this, remake that", "pre-quell this, pre-quell that". Also getting fed up with Marvel superhero movies.
Planet of the Apes was genius. I will not see this new version.
“while Glee: The 3D Concert Movie took a slushie to the face in sixth.” You mean a novelty karaoke show with low ratings didn't do blockbusters at the box office? A rare miss by Hollywood.
Planet of apes is a fine film.I think Thomas tull is guy behind the rise of the films based on comics books.
