Thor 2 May Go to Television For Its Director, and 5 Other Stories You'll Be Talking About Today
Also in this Friday (Friday!) edition of The Broadsheet: Brett Ratner comments on Brett Ratner producing the Academy Awards... Mark Ruffalo and Amanda Seyfried may See you... Kenneth Branagh doesn't need no stinkin' Thor... and more ahead.
· Thor 2 just got a whole lot more interesting for Game of Thrones fans. Variety reports that Marvel is talking with Brian Kirk about taking over directing duties on the comic book sequel, which is scheduled to hit theaters on July 26, 2013. Kirk -- who has directed episodes of Thrones and Boardwalk Empire for HBO -- would replace Kenneth Branagh at the helm, and make his directorial debut in the process. If this means that Peter Dinklage winds up getting cast in Thor 2, consider it a great idea. [Variety]
· Speaking of Thor: Kenneth Branagh has nearly found his next directorial project after bowing out of the Marvel franchise. Variety reports that he's in talks to direct an adaptation of the bestseller The Guernsey Literary and Potato Peel Pie Society. Mouthy title. [Variety]
· Keeping the Marvel theme alive, former Incredible Hulk director Louis Leterrier is in the process of lining up a potentially killer cast for his magician heist thriller Now You See Me. Both Mark Ruffalo and Amanda Seyfried are currently in talks to star opposite Jesse Eisenberg and Melanie Laurent. Ruffalo would play an FBI agent in the film who tracks the team of thief magicians (Eisenberg, Seyfried) [Variety]
· High School Musical star Corbin Bleu has joined the cast of Nurse 3D, the porn-y horror film with Paz de la Huerta and 30 Rock co-star Katrina Bowden. [Variety]
· Before deciding to produce the 2012 Academy Awards Brett Ratner watched clips from every Oscar ceremony ever. "I looked through every single telecast. And I called up Tom [Sherak] and Dawn [Hudson] and said, 'I can do this. I'm really excited.'" Controversial opinion, perhaps -- since the knives are already out -- but: maybe we all just give him a chance? He can't possibly produce a worse show than last year. (Famous last words.) [Deadline]
· "I am sitting at a table with a gentleman who is better looking than you and is in better shape than me," Mark Wahlberg said to Leonardo DiCaprio at the Hollywood Foreign Press Association's annual luncheon in Beverly Hills on Thursday. "So, we're both out of a job, dude. Taylor Lautner! We're screwed." You didn't need any more proof that Twilight had taken over the Earth, but there you go. [E!]

I loved The Guernsey Literary and Potato Peel Pie Society. It was such a sweet and charming book. I'm excited to see what Branagh would do with it.
