According to a Facebook posting from Exhibitor Relations, Margaret -- Kenneth Lonergan's long, long, long, long, long delayed follow-up to You Can Count on Me -- will arrive in theaters on Sept. 30 via Fox Searchlight. The film stars Matt Damon, Mark Ruffalo, Matthew Broderick, Allison Janney, and Anna Paquin, and deals with the aftermath of a tragic school bus accident. [Facebook]

Obviously, any release is better than no release so we can actually see this darn thing and determine whether it's any good. But, does the fact it's not having a secret rollout at Telluride, or getting an official bow at Toronto, Venice or the NY Film Festival mean it's destined to arrive as a damaged film with the knives out for it?

I feel like the curiosity level is such — and the reputation of You Can Count on Me is so strong — that it will be given a shot by many. Even if it's a terrible train wreck, it will probably be looked at as an interesting failure.
