Harrison Ford Attached to Play Wyatt Earp in Black Hats, and 5 Other Stories You'll Be Talking About Today
Also in this Monday edition of The Broadsheet: Russell Brand remembers Amy Winehouse... Rhys Ifans is not in the new James Bond... Zac Efron and Seth Rogen go old school... and more ahead.
· The Paramount marketing department is probably giddy about this bit of seeming Cowboys & Aliens synergy. Over the weekend it was reported that C&A star Harrison Ford is attached to Black Hats in the role of Wyatt Earp. Hats -- based on the novel by Max Allan Collins -- follows an older Earp who teams up with Bat Masterson (now a sportswriter) to save the son of Doc Holliday from Al Capone in Prohibition-era New York. Hot screenwriter Kurt Johnstad (300, rewrites on Man of Steel) is penning the script; no director is yet attached. [THR/Heat Vision]
· Russell Brand on his friend Amy Winehouse, who died over the weekend at the age of 27. "When you love someone who suffers from the disease of addiction you await the phone call. There will be a phone call. The sincere hope is that the call will be from the addict themselves, telling you they've had enough, that they're ready to stop, ready to try something new. Of course though, you fear the other call, the sad nocturnal chime from a friend or relative telling you it's too late, she's gone." This is well worth a read, so go ahead and click through. · Chalk up another one to the James Bond casting rumor gods. Rhys Ifans told MTV that he is not starring in Bond 23, despite reports to the contrary. "No kidding," said everyone. [MTV]
· Seth Rogen and Zac Efron are attached to an R-rated comedy pitch that Universal picked up about a raucous fraternity brother (Efron) whose parties cause consternation for the family man down the street (Rogen). Evan Goldberg and Rogen will produce this Old School-like laugher, with Judd Apatow proteges Andrew Cohen and Brendan O'Brien writing the script. [Deadline]
· As Mike Ryan wondered on Twitter: Will Vinny Chase direct? Jose Rivera (The Motorcycle Diaries) will write the script for the Chilean miners movie. [Deadline]
· Pulp casting alert: Ray Liotta, Gina Gershon and Comic-Con hero Val Kilmer are set to start in the thriller Breathless. You'll watch this one on Cinemax at 2 a.m. in two years and remember this news bullet. [Variety]
