Xenophilius Lovegood Could Meet James Bond, and 5 Other Stories You'll Be Talking About Today
Also in this Monday edition of The Broadsheet: Tom Cruise officially set for Jack Reacher... Sam Rockwell in talks to live through Chemistry... the 300 sequel gets a director... and more ahead.
· It wouldn't be a Broadsheet without some kind of James Bond casting rumor, so here you go: The Telegraph reports that Harry Potter and the Deathly Hallows Part 1 star Rhys Ifans will appear opposite Daniel Craig and Javier Bardem in Bond 23 for director Sam Mendes. OK, then! No mention of Ralph Fiennes in this rumor report, which is... something? If Ifans gets cast in Bond, it would make 2012 a pretty great year for him: Luna Lovegood's onscreen dad already co-stars in Five-Year Engagement and The Amazing Spider-Man next year, and the new James Bond adventure hits theaters on Nov. 9, 2012. · You were unhappy when it was rumored, and now you can be really unhappy: Tom Cruise will officially play the six-foot-five Jack Reacher in the Paramount adaptation of Lee Child's One Shot. The Usual Suspects's Christopher McQuarrie will direct, with shooting set for the fall. [Deadline]
· Jeremy Renner actually isn't starring in something! The ubiquitous force has dropped out of Better Living With Chemistry, and producers are in talks with Sam Rockwell to replace him. Chemistry focuses on a small-town pharmacist (the Renner/Rockwell role) who strikes up an affair with a trophy wife (Jennifer Garner), starts using prescription drugs, and hatches a murder plot. Sounds pretty Rockwell-y, come to think of it. [Variety]
· Game of Thrones star Sean Bean is in negotiations to play Snow White's father in Tarsem Singh's Untitled Snow White project. Memo to Relativity: get this one a title already! [THR/Heat Vision]
· Noam Murro has won the battle with Jaume Collet-Serra to direct the Warner Bros. sequel 300: Battle of Artemisia. Though since Collet-Serra was recently hired by the studio for Akira, perhaps that won should be in quotes. Process of elimination, FTW! [THR/ Heat Vision]
· Bridesmaids screenwriter Annie Mumolo and Robert Smigel have joined the bulging cast of Judd Apatow's untitled 2012 comedy. This is great news... for you to poop on. No, actually, this is pretty great news. [THR]
