Drew Barrymore May Direct Heist Society, and 5 Other Stories You'll Be Talking About Today
Also in this Friday (Friday!) edition of The Broadsheet: Vince Vaughn could join Neighborhood Watch... the synopsis for Prometheus tells you nothing... the best movie trailer of the last calendar year is effing special... and more ahead.
· It was a bit disappointing for devotees of Drew Barrymore's directorial debut Whip It to learn that the budding filmmaker would follow-up that underrated effort by directing How To Be Single, an ensemble rom-com like all the other ensemble rom-coms. Perhaps this could be her mea culpa: Barrymore will reunite with Whip It screenwriter Shauna Cross to produce and possibly direct Heist Society, an adaptation of the young adult novel by Ally Carter. The film would follow a young woman who "hails from an extended family of cat burglars," and the lengths she goes to clear her father's name when a mobster's priceless art collection goes missing. Sounds like a distaff Ocean's Eleven. Cross will write the script, while Barrymore will "supervise." [THR]
· Vince Vaughn is in early negotiations to co-star opposite Ben Stiller in Neighborhood Watch, a comedy about a group of dads who uncover a plot to end the world. Seth Rogen and Evan Goldberg wrote the script. [THR]
· Brooklyn Decker isn't the only new addition to the cast of What to Expect When You're Expecting; the Lionsgate rom-com has also added Anna Kendrick and Chris Rock to its growing roster. Kendrick will play a food truck owner who gets pregnant, while Rock tackles the role of Vic, the guy who gives advice on having children to the expectant fathers. Cameron Diaz and Jennifer Lopez also co-star. [Deadline]
· Late Thursday, a fake synopsis for Ridley Scott's non-Alien prequel Prometheus started popping up on blogs around the Internet. Here's the real one, courtesy of Twentieth Century Fox:
Visionary filmmaker Ridley Scott returns to the genre he helped define, creating an original science fiction epic set in the most dangerous corners of the universe. The film takes a team of scientists and explorers on a thrilling journey that will test their physical and mental limits and strand them on a distant world, where they will discover the answers to our most profound questions and to life's ultimate mystery.
If only that were more vague. [Coming Soon]
· Christopher Nolan will produce the next project from actor-turned-director Keith Gordon (who you remember from Christine and Back to School), an apparent supernatural thriller based on an unknown novel. More on this one as it develops. [Deadline]
· The trailer for The Social Network won four trophies at the Golden Trailer Awards on Thursday night, making it the first film to win that many since The Matrix in 1999. Considering it had the best trailer ever, this isn't surprising. Watch the winning clip below. [Deadline]

Agree to disagree, Mr. Rosen, as last week proved that Killer Elite is the BEST TRAILER EVER.
Don't even try to deny it. It's futile.
If you do, Statham will flip a chair over you. Flip you for real.
