Transformers: Dark of the Moon Earns $37.2 Million On Opening Day

Despite massive hype, 3-D surcharges, and an actual good movie, it seems audiences were a bit gun-shy about running out to see Transformers: Dark of the Moon on opening day. The Wednesday grosses for the threequel tallied $37.2 million (plus an additional $5.5 million from Tuesday night), down dramatically from the $62 million Revenge of the Fallen earned on its opening Wednesday in 2009. Not that Paramount is too disappointed; the studio is expecting Dark of the Moon to have the highest worldwide gross in the franchise before it explodes out of theaters later this summer. Still, shouldn't this have opened bigger? [Deadline]

wow thats like a 50% attendance drop if you think of the higher 3d prices....could end up being the lowest grossing transformers domestically

  • KevyB says:

Because YOUR critic liked it, that means it's "an actual good movie"??? This thing's sporting a 42 on Metacritic and a 36% on the more-generous Rotten Tomatoes. Has America finally reached Michael Bay fatigue? One can only hope!

  • Jesus Christ, calm down. We get it, you don't like it.

Lord, I wouldn't see this crap on a bet! And that comment WAS calm, unlike this one:
Why does it seem this site always shits on movies that get poor Metacritic/Rotten Tomatoes ratings (for good reason!), but suddenly it wants to ignore that treatment for the big fat bloated blockbuster that the Movieline critic liked but few others did. Larry Crowne got a "Most Scathing Critical Responses" page (and it may be the highest-rated movie ever to get one), so where's the Transformers version? It got 2 more points on Tomatoes but one LESS point on Metacritic? So Jesus Christ, let's be consistent... pick a number and Scathing Response EVERYTHING below that number, or at the very least get everyone off Michael Bay's payroll.
