A Boy And His Horse: Watch the Sparkling Trailer for Steven Spielberg's War Horse
When the trailer for The Adventures of Tintin was released online last month, it was met with some push-back from Steven Spielberg fans because of its Zemeckis-y tumble into the uncanny valley. Good thing, then, that Spielberg has another December release lined up to please his many devotees: the motion capture-free War Horse. The first trailer for the World War I drama about a boy (Jeremy Irvine) and his horse has arrived online, and you might want to bring a tissue to watch it ahead.
Shut up! You're crying! Ahem. Based on the book by Michael Morpurgo, it wouldn't be far-fetched to imagine War Horse becoming a major player in the Oscar race later this year; after all, the stage version of the book was converted into a Tony Award-winning play. The only problem with having a knockout trailer and immediate awards-player expectations? Well, the expectations. The last time Spielberg had a surefire Oscar contender lined up for December, it was Munich, and it disappointed with just five nominations and no wins. Still...
VERDICT: Off to the races.

May I ask for a clarification of the reference, "Zemeckis-y tumble into the uncanny valley"?
Sure: The Adventures of Tintin trailer looks like The Polar Express and A Christmas Carol. Thus, it looks totally creepy and half-real, half-not.
Yeah if only Munich had been as good as Crash....
Stupid Oscars.

There's so much outrage over the fact that Brokeback Mountain lost to Crash that year, it seems people forget Munich also got the shaft. Alas.
That trailer makes it look like one gosh darn perty lookin' war. Them soldiers must uv felt real privileged-like to have laid down their lives on the altar of such tender beauty. O, the pulchritude.
This Trailer just makes me want to zzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzz
Much obliged! Thanks to you and ST, I now have words for what was formerly a vague feeling of unease!
Hilarious...the sweet old man. I don’t know his name but I just watched some French movies where he was a complete evil prick last week. Then seeing him in this! I don’t think I can buy him as sweet now.
Yeah, it's pretty, but what the story is? I have no idea from that trailer.
