Avengers Stuntman Injured During 30 Foot Fall
Startling news from the set of Joss Whedon's big-budget Avengers movie: Stuntman Jeremy Fitzgerald was injured last Friday while performing a death-defying stunt that featured a 30 foot fall from a building. Details on the grisly superhero set accident below.
According to THR, Fitzgerald -- who has nearly 100 film and TV credits including Sin City, Live Free or Die Hard and Spider-Man 3 -- was preparing for a 30 foot fall from a building "but caught his foot on the way down, causing his head to slam into a brick." While he luckily avoided making contact with a nearby rain gutter, the impact of the accident tore off a chunk of his scalp.
The stuntman was treated with a bandage and then continued work on several more takes.
A superstar cast including Robert Downey Jr., Chris Hemsworth, Chris Evans, Jeremy Renner, Mark Ruffalo, Scarlett Johansson, Samuel L. Jackson, Cobie Smulders and Stellan Skarsgård round out the Marvel film, due in theaters May 4, 2012.
