Woody Allen's Full Bop Decameron Cast May Be His Finest in a Decade
Here's the official alphabetical listing of Woody Allen's Bop Decameron (which took a cue from Movieline when adding Ellen Page a couple months ago): Woody Allen, Alec Baldwin, Roberto Benigni, Penélope Cruz, Judy Davis, Jesse Eisenberg, Greta Gerwig and Ellen Page. The minor cast includes Antonio Albanese, Fabio Armiliata, Alessandra Mastronardi, Ornella Muti, Flavio Parenti, Alison Pill, Riccardo Scamarcio and Alessandro Tiberi. Is this the post-2000 Woody Allen cast of everyone's dreams?
The combination of Eisenberg and Page is already dynamic, but the inclusion of Judy Davis -- who changed your life in My Brilliant Career, Impromptu, and Husbands and Wives -- and Alec Baldwin, who still gives the funniest performance on television, is too much to bear. Greta Gerwig? We can't get enough of her either! And Penelope Cruz? My god. The only way this could be better, in my estimation, is if Diane Keaton showed up wearing her business whites from The First Wives Club, and Maureen Stapleton came back from the dead to to play a thorny grandmother. What do you think? Amazing, or too frontloaded with disparate talents?

yeah, no.
I'm not sure I want to see Woody in front of the camera anymore. Switch him out for hmm---Steve Martin and replace Roberto Benigni with ANYONE. Stanley Tucci?
Oh, and I'd add THE REF to awesome Judy Davis' movies.
Thank goodness Allen is returning to the screen. It never really works when he has someone else play the "Woody Allen" role. The best films he's made in the last few years (Match Point, Cassandra's Dream & Vicky, Christina, Barcelona) have not had an "Allen" character. If he's going to have an "Allen" character, it's best that he play it himself. I mean jesus, Eli Wallach's still acting and he's 96!
So who will Jesse Eisenberg play?
I'd like to see Colin Firth in the cast-he's never been in one of Woody's films and he speaks Italian...
