Jim Carrey Says He May Revisit Bruce Almighty and Dumb and Dumber in Future Films
With the exception of his little-seen work in I Love You Phillip Morris and a blink-and-you-missed-it appearance in the season finale of The Office, Jim Carrey has been away from the pop culture landscape for almost two years. (Three, if you don't want to count the motion-capture spectacle that was A Christmas Carol.) That will change when Mr. Popper's Penguins gets released in two weeks, and apparently Carrey wants to keep the likely momentum going forward by doing what movie stars do best: heading back to their past successes.
Speaking with Coming Soon, Carrey revealed that his future films could have a decidedly retro vibe:
"We're talking about maybe returning to some old characters that everyone has been asking about," Carrey teased when asked what he might follow Penguins with. "There's Bruce Almighty and we're talking about maybe another Dumb and Dumber."
While the idea of another Bruce Almighty has seemed remote since the expensive, Carrey-less sequel, Evan Almighty, scuffled at the box office, this isn't the first time a Dumb and Dumber sequel has been mentioned. During the press rounds for Hall Pass in February, writer/director Bobby Farrelly revealed he and brother Peter had been thinking about continuing that story:
"[Dumb and Dumber] has run a bunch of times on TV in the states, and kids will come up and they'll be able to quote lines from that -- lines that I've long forgotten. If we could get those two guys back together, Jim Carrey and Jeff Daniels that might be a worthwhile sequel -- and that ball is in motion. We're starting to think about what those two dimwits would be doing twenty-years later in life, and hopefully we'll be able to come up with something worthy of a sequel."
So you're telling me there's a chance? Intriguing. Mr. Popper's Penguins swims into theaters on June 17.

It's not Jim Carrey's fault if there are no decent parts written to suit his particular style. Hollywood has lately suffered from 'too many actors, not enough roles' syndrome.
However, Jim and other successful actors tend to rely on their agents a bit too much. Instead of doing the leg work of going out and finding great scripts and maybe taking a paycut to get some unkown's film greenlit.
Why are they not thinking about an Ace Ventura sequel? Those movies were the best.
Since we're just spitballing here, why not an Eternal Sunshine sequel?
It could be in 3D...
Or a Once Bitten remake with Carrey as Lauren Hutton. Vampires are so hot right now, etc.
I would totally LOVE another Dumb and Dumber and even more so another Ace Ventura, those Pet Detective movies are some of the most hilarious stuff ever.
Ooooh, and Lauren Hutton could sparkle in the daytime instead of sleeping in a coffin!
After watching the movie I love you Philip Morris for the first 5 or 10 mins, thinking because it had Jim it it that it was going to be like his other comedies, not gay porn, I he hope goes back to something he's good at. Cuz that movie was appalling!!!
Man, Sarah Palin's bus really has everything, including WiFi.
Did you not at all read any articles or reviews about the movie before you stupidly paid out your money to see it? What kind of moron goes to see a movie they know nothing about other than it stars Jim Carrey? And frankly you should have been more appalled by Yes Man, Horton Hears a Who, Fun with Dick and Jane, How the Grinch Stole Christmas and probably Mr. Poppers Penguins...
Here's a man who has been floundering in the sea of civilized uncertainty . . .hope he finds himself. I miss him and so does everyone else.
So say I, self-appointed foreman in the jury of talent.
I want to hear the most annoying sound in the world again.
I WANT ANOTHER ACE VENTURE. LIKE A GLOVE !
dont do a '20 years later' story for a new Dumb and Dumber.. that would be terrible
Hey now, "Horton Hears a Who!"was great! The others, definitely not so much.
But he looks a hundred years old.
Dr. Seuss should not be "hip".
