Latest Trailer for Real Steel Reveals Sports Movie With Boxing Robots

Now all the cliches spouted in the first teaser trailer for Real Steel make sense! It turns out the Hugh Jackman-led robot boxing movie is actually just another in a long line of underdog sports movies. Albeit with robot boxing. Click ahead to watch the longer, kid-friendly and action-packed latest trailer.

Jackman stars as Charlie Kenton, a former boxer who now trains and fights giant robots leftover from the set of Transformers. Down on his luck and trying to reconnect with the son he barely knows, Charlie finds a sparring 'bot buried underground, and -- at the urging of his son -- gets it into fighting shape. Cue Bill Conti!

Judging from the trailer, director Shawn Levy plays up much father-son humor in Real Steel, and Jackman seems totally game. Whether audiences will want to watch such tame metallic beasts spar, however, remains to be seen. Don't forget: Michael Bay will use similar machines to destroy much of Earth in Transformers: Dark of the Moon before Steel even comes out.

Watch the trailer below. Real Steel smashes into theaters on Oct. 14.

Wow, I couldn't even get through the entire trailer.

  • The Winchester says:

You know what would make this movie better? If the robots were arm wrestling for the love of their sons.
And Jackman wore a backwards baseball cap.
