DreamWorks and Warner Bros. Plan Martin Luther King Film, and 5 Other Stories You'll Be Talking About Today
Also in this Friday (finally!) edition of The Broadsheet: Jack Ryan gets a rewrite... January Jones announces surprise pregnancy... the Royal Wedding happened... and more ahead.
· Paul Greengrass didn't have very much luck with his Martin Luther King Jr. movie, but maybe DreamWorks and Warner Bros. will. With cooperation from the King estate, the studios will co-finance an untitled film about the late civil rights leader from screenwriter Kario Salem (who wrote the underrated and forgotten film The Score in 2001). Translation: this one is far away from theaters, but stay tuned. [THR]
· Paramount is serious about getting its Jack Ryan reboot just right. The studio has hired blockbuster screenwriter David Koepp (Mission: Impossible, Jurassic Park) to rewrite the film, which will star Chris Pine as a younger version of the Tom Clancy hero. Frequent Lost contributor Jack Bender is still attached to direct. [Deadline]
· HBO is planning a Julian Assange movie, and Oscar-winning director Charles Ferguson (Inside Job) is attached to direct. Outstanding! Only issue? This one isn't totally guaranteed to go forward into production. (Though, really, it probably will.) Bill Hader, wait by the phone. [Deadline]
· Luke Greenfield (who directed the wonderfully underrated Bad Movie We Love The Girl Next Door) is attached to direct a spec script that just sold to Twentieth Century Fox for six figures. Deadline describes the film as "an edgy action-comedy for two male stars," which is a far cry from Greenfield's next film, Something Borrowed. [Deadline]
· Turning to the more gossip-y stories of note, January Jones is pregnant. "January Jones is happy to announce that she is expecting her first child this fall," her representative reported to People. Said a source close to Jones: ""She's really looking forward to this new chapter in her life as a single mom." Damn, Mike Huckabee is going to be pissed. [People]
· Finally: The Royal Wedding happened! Click through to see pictures of the newly anointed Duke and Duchess of Cambridge (a.k.a. Prince William and Waity Katie Katherine Middleton!) [Huffington Post]

If the actor playing Assange is being cast just on resemblance, it's gotta be Carey Mulligan right? Spitting image.
