Talkback: What Hollywood Stars Should Have Made the TIME 100?
It's that time (ha!) of year again, when TIME magazine releases its annual list of the 100 most influential people in the world. In addition to names you'd expect to read (Barack Obama, Hillary Clinton, Mark Zuckerberg), there are some major Hollywood players singled out in the 2011 edition, like Oprah Winfrey, producer Scott Rudin, Pixar head John Lasseter, Matt Damon, Colin Firth, and... Blake Lively?
That's right: the lovely Ms. Lively gets her own place among the 100, complete with a blurb about her relevance written by Baz Luhrmann -- the same Baz Luhrmann who didn't cast her in The Great Gatsby. All of which begs the question: What is Blake Lively doing on the TIME 100?
Feel free to discuss that in the comments below, as well as any or all of the following:
· Mark Wahlberg makes the list, but not other influential actor-producers like Leonardo DiCaprio and Will Smith?
· He might be old-hat by now, but shouldn't any list of world-impacting people have George Clooney mentioned somewhere?
· Outside of Lively, the only other Hollywood women listed are the aforementioned Oprah, Amy Poehler and Mia Wasikowska. Was there no room for Angelina Jolie, Natalie Portman, Jodie Foster, Lisa Cholodenko, Meryl Streep, Anne Hathaway, or any other number of fantastic female icons?
· Does the inclusion of Justin Bieber on the list mean we can expect a sequel to Never Say Never? Does the exclusion of Lady Gaga mean her path to the big screen has been slowed?
The floor is yours, dear Movieline readers; let's dissect the TIME 100.

The 100 is a fairly bullshit list. Isn't it more like 10 people who are influential in 10 broadly defined fields? If that's the case, the number of actors on the list is already pretty laughable. I love Amy Poehler, but why is she deserving of a place on this list? Same for Wasikowska.
I'm sure there are much more powerful and influential women in Hollywood who should be on this list, I just doubt any of them are on-screen talent. I'm confident the same can be said for Wahlberg by the way.
I guess it seems like arguing with the Time 100 choices is like arguing with the Golden Globes, Oscars, pretty much any awards ceremony. It's always going to be compromised bullshit, why quibble on the specific bullshititude?
What a shit list.
This was a ridiculous list. They honor Sting, who was last relevant sometime before the Revolutionary War, and they honor the writer of a guide to pregnancy that was written 27 YEARS AGO! It's like they picked 10 obvious choices, then chose the other 90 by picking from a barrel containing 6 million names.
Lady Gaga is so 2010.
Pretty sure I wouldn't put the Time 100 on the Time 100.
They should really call it the Oprah & the Time 99.
Blake Lively played an almost important role in a movie about travelling pants and some sisters. That makes one of the most influential in the world, if not the most influential person (according to TIME).
