Judd Apatow Gives Jacki Weaver a Five-Year Engagement
Who would have guessed that Movieline darling Jacki Weaver would follow up her dark Oscar-nominated turn in Animal Kingdom with a role in the Judd Apatow-produced Five-Year Engagement? (Not us.) Jason Segel and Emily Blunt will star in the Nicholas Stoller-directed comedy about a couple who decides to wait five years before getting married. No word yet on which character the Australian actress will play. Team Jacki! [Deadline]

Jeepers. Jackie Weaver should be pinching herself every single moment of every single day due to her largely overrated role in Animal Kingdom bringing on such over the top and unjustifiable acclaim.
Weaver is a talented actress, of this there is no doubt, but both her character and performance in Animal Kingdom were one thing and one thing only: One Dimensional.
And here she is now doing an Apatow flick, albeit one that he is only producing, and further more, starring Jason Segel, how is leading the new wave of ugly lead actors who are trying to make us cinema goers of the Golden Days of cinema. You remember those, right? When actors were attractive and were damn good actors to boot? These days they're ugly and can't act. Go figure.
If anyone was to get acclaim for Animal Kingdom, it was Ben Mendholson for his potrayal of Pope. In a film full of one dimensional characters and thin plot lines, he has every right to feel indignant about being overshadowed by Weaver's safe performance.
