Monopoly Parody Trailer: Is This Close to the Real Thing?

Our cinematic future includes board game adaptations like Peter Berg's Battleship, Gore Verbinski's Clue, Candy Land (perhaps directed by Lord Licorice himself), and Ridley Scott's Monopoly. We're most concerned about that last one, because, uh, can a Monopoly movie be legitimate? With Candy Land, you at least get Wonka splendor. With Monopoly, you get... property acquisition? Thimble humor? We're worried that Funny Or Die's new satirical Monopoly trailer, posted after the jump, is all too close to what the actual film will be.

First of all, let's all click "Die," OK? The closing crack, "This game never ends!" is a winner, but where was the $10 beauty contest? The gorgeous pullback shot of the B&O Railroad? The glamorous still of murdered showgirl Aunt Pennybags? Plenty of missed potential.

While Scott's version of Monopoly is rumored to be sci-fi-tinged, can it really eschew the points of mockery in this trailer? The "GO" mentions, the jail visits, and the luxury tax issues? I suppose if Boardwalk Empire can be tolerable, a big-screen Monopoly has a "chance" too. (Mind you, I often call Boardwalk Empire "Monotonopoly," because God, it drags.)

Are you optimistic about Monopoly's multiplex future? Or is Ridley Scott in danger of rolling too many doubles in a row (or whatever)?

Scott's version better be more realistic, and include a scene in the middle where everyone gets frustrated, gives up, and plays Uno instead.
