Robert Zemeckis Returns With Gnome Survival Guide, and 5 Other Stories You'll Be Talking About Today

Robert-Zemeckis300.jpgAlso in this Friday edition of The Broadsheet: Mark Wahlberg continues to line up possible jobs... Arnold Schwarzenegger may be back, again... Patton Oswalt is really Odd... and more ahead.

· Following the disastrous box office results of Mars Needs Moms, and the crumbling of his planned Yellow Submarine remake, Robert Zemeckis needed some good work-related news. This will have to suffice: Zemeckis will produce How to Survive a Garden Gnome Attack, based on the book by Chuck Sambuchino. As you can guess from the title, the adaptation will be about surviving a garden gnome attack. No writer or director is attached, but you can bet those gnomes from Gnomeo and Juliet are already sending in headshots. [THR/Heat Vision]

· Move over, James Franco. The busy Mark Wahlberg has potentially added two more concerns to his already packed days. He'll produce When Corruption Was King -- about a Chicago lawyer who helps bring down the mafia -- as well as a remake of Billy Jack. Currently he isn't attached to star in either film, but don't be surprised if that changes. [Variety, The Tracking Board via Slashfilm]

· Justin Lin -- the director of the cuckoo-bananas-looking Fast Five -- has had discussions with Arnold Schwarzenegger about a possible return to the Terminator franchise. "I've talked with Arnold and we've talked and we'll see," he said. "Again, I would love to do it, but it has to be the right circumstances." Noted. [Collider]

· Patton Oswalt has joined the increasingly eclectic cast of Odd Thomas, Stephen Sommers' adaptation of the Dean Koontz bestseller. He'll star opposite Willem Dafoe, Anton Yelchin and Nico Tortorella. [Variety]

· Michael C. Hall and Vera Farmiga will team-up for Love, Scotch and Death, the feature debut from Dexter creator James Manos Jr. [Deadline]

· Summer soundtrack news! Todd Phillips has commissioned Glenn Danzig to write an original song for The Hangover Part II, following the successful use of Danzig's "Thirteen" in the first film. Meanwhile, as has been de rigueur, Michael Bay will use a Linkin Park song for Transformers: Dark of the Moon. This time it's a remix of "Iridescent." [The Playlist]
