Joaquin Phoenix Considers Coming Out of Retirement For P.T. Anderson's Scientology Film
I'm Still Here star Joaquin Phoenix might cancel his early retirement to co-star in Paul Thomas Anderson's much anticipated Scientology film, which was at one point titled The Master. Philip Seymour Hoffman will star as a charismatic leader a la L. Ron Hubbard; Phoenix would play Freddie Sutton, "an alcoholic drifter who becomes [Hoffman's onscreen] right-hand man only to begin questioning his manipulative mentor." Most importantly, this casting development brings us hope that the film, which was postponed last September before acquiring a 25-year-old financier, will actually be made. [Variety]

I hope Joaquin Phoenix accepts this role. The movie gets financed.
He is such a great actor. As is Phillip Seymour Hoffman. I think its ironic how many Joaquin's fans think PSH stole JPs Oscar and here they more work together. Well that's show biz.
I don't even know, who this guy is, the only movie star, I have ever heard of, with this type of name was RIVER PHOENIX.
I think the casting of Phoenix and Hoffman in the Scientology film couldn't be better....already I see academy awards. Both actors are the best in their field. I'm so glad that Joaquin Phoenix is back...what a waste if he remained reclusive...I never understood what all that was about but I forgive him.
Who cares if some actor or actorless comes out of their so called retirement, I have use for that so called reglion, (if you want to call it) all it is money hungry folks who run it, (like the old song from years back, sung by Ray Stevens)WOULD GOD WEAR A GOLD ROLEX WATCH--or preacher, etc. or live in 2 million homes or drive 50,000 auto.
Joaquin is the late River Phoenix's brother. And just as talented.
Excellent. Maybe the retirement thing was just part of his fake doc. Any role he's in is worth watching.
I love all those fake "retirement" announcements by unemployed actors. Their retirement is usually a signal that they cannot find another screen or broadway role. All of a sudden, a suitable movie role is somehow discovered, and the salary is acceptable, then suddenly, like magic, the actor or actress comes out of the self-imposed "retirement." It is quite a publicity tactic. I am glad the actor has found gainful employment.
yes, Joaquin Phoenix is a GREAT ACTOR.
guess you dont see too many movies... Joaquin Phoenix starred in GLADIATOR, SIGNS, LADDER 49, WALK THE LINE, WE OWN THE NIGHT , BROTHER BEAR...just to name a few
No, my opinion is he is off the wall. But then again, maybe he would be great at the part.
He's an excellent actor, but I probably will rent the DVD
LOVE Joaquin, Gorgeous, amazing actor. I say give me more Joaquin. Don't listen to critics...DO YOU. Plus he was born in San Juan PRico, and raised in L.A. I think that's cool. He is an amazing artist and I would love to see him do more Oscar worthy films...
He should stay retired - never missed him
I think JP and PSH both would be wonderful. I'd like to see ANYONE have the cajones to call a spade a spade on Scientology - the most ridiculous load of cr*p anyone ever perpetrated on a "congregation." Hello? You give all your money and power to a "church" that, btw, has you on tape confessing not only your deepest, darkest sins, but your deepest, darkest FANTASIES, and you're probably in a CULT, dude! Yeah! Do the movie, and do this "religion" exactly the justice it deserves.
Joaquin is one of my favorite actors. So glad he's starting to do films again!
I would like to see Joaquin Phoenix come out of retirement to act in anything. He is gifted, one of the best, and I miss him. Joaquin should have won an Oscar for his role in Walk the Line. He was too young and too talented to retire.
I think there may be some ironies here in casting Phoenix. Please note I didn't write problems. I don't see them as such. First Joaquin Phoenix was in his beginning formative years was raised in a cult, ie Children of God. Second he went into rehab April 2006 for Alcohol related issues. Third he's starring with Phillip Seymour Hoffman who many JP fans believe that PSH stole Joaquin's Oscar for best actor "Walk the Line" Of course that last one is only opinion. I do hope he gets the part of Freddie Sutton
I wonder if his background could help him with the role. Lastly I don't want to be presumptive.
