Trailer: Honey 2 Will Be Your Favorite Bad Dance Movie of the Year

Everyone, stop what you're doing. Universal has finally released the trailer for Honey 2, the absolutely un-awaited sequel to Jessica Alba's 2003 Razzie-nominated dance flick. It may not have the caché of other studio follow-ups like Harry Potter and the Deathly Hallows: Part 2 or any of the "stars" from the first film -- but what it lacks in original plot and compelling characters, it makes up for in spirit and sports bras.

Jessica Alba is replaced by Katerina Graham of Vampire Diaries fame, who plays recent juvie graduate Maria Ramirez, a Bronx street dancer with a chip on her shoulder and something major to prove to "the 718 crew." Maria is linked to the original Honey Daniels through Honey's mom (who houses Maria to keep her out of trouble, naturally), Honey's dance studio (where Maria practices) and Honey's legacy (which "lives on inside Maria"). Obviously. The good news is that Graham is an experienced background dancer, having worked for Missy Elliott, Pharrell, Jamie Foxx, Akon, Justin Bieber and Usher.

AudrinaHoney2.jpgThe bad news is that on top of a lesser known star, producers couldn't even wrangle any recognizable names from the original cast (Lil' Romeo, Mekhi Phifer, Joy Bryant and Missy Elliott) and are stuck with Mario Lopez as a cheesy MC and Audrina Patridge, who is billed second on IMDB, but only does this (pictured right) in the trailer.

Regardless, if you're a fan of nonsensical plots and characters with unexplainable angst that is somehow relieved through street dancing, mark your calendars for June 10.

Verdict: I've already started assembling a shrine to this film in the Bad Movies We Love library.

I watched the first Honey back to back with You Got Served, and then I may or may not have watched Glitter. I will watch this Honey 2. Who's with me?

IMDB cast lists for movies before release date are determined by star meter...not billing order

  • And yet you're still among us after such a hypothetical movie marathon! Truly, the Force is strong in you, Ms. Yamato.
