VIDEO: Watch Thor Get Cosmic And Then Blow The Crap Out Of A Fake New Mexico Town
As far as Marvel Comics' summer superhero movies go, it seems like there might be a clear set of preconceived notions already coagulating into stone. Captain America? Looks like it might be a retro-adventure movie like Indiana Jones! X-Men: First Class? The trailer looked cool, but the posters are objectively vomit-inducing, so we're cautiously optimistic. Thor, on the other hand, seems to have already been declared DOA by the geek brigade. But this behind the scenes look on the set in New Mexico might start to change their minds.
We get a glimpse of not only the completely fake town set that director Kenneth Branagh constructed in the middle of New Mexico, but we also get a sense of how cosmic the story of Thor may prove to be. It seems like Asgard, home of the gods, and the nine realms of Norse mythology play a heavy component. Plus our time in Asgard appears to be more than just establishing shot, but to play a integral part in the movie, a bit like Oa in the recent Green Lantern trailer. Plus, is that Loki with the Cosmic Cube? Check it out below!

I can't wait to see how this does. I never liked Thor and I don't think most people do either, but this movie looks great.
Hemsworth seems perfect for Thor.
oh god movieline... you are so out of touch. The only one declaring Thor DOA is you. Sad.
I wanna know who declared this DOA because I'm a geek and all my little geeky friends, and their geeky counterparts can't wait for this. I must not be apart of the 'elite geek circle' you have your finger on the pulse of if i'm not cool enough to not want to see this movie.
As for 'Captain America looking like it might be a retro-adventure movie like Indiana Jones!' It ... what? Why? because it has Nazis in it and... he...??
Steve Rogers was born 1917 and after trying to enlist to fight during WW2 and being rejected only to be recruited for Operation: Rebirth where he was injected with Super Soldier Serum and exposed to Vita-Rays. A large part of his original story takes place in WW2, along with Bucky, where there are Nazis and of course, Indiana Jones...
Omg you're right, it IS like Indiana Jones. 🙂 I get what you mean by the feel of the movie being 'like Indiana Jones' but it's really not. 🙂
Uhm, the X-Men film is not a Marvel Studios film. Straight up Fox with no involvement from Marvel, other than the sale of the rights.
DOA is a little far, but Dixon isn't wrong. People like Devin Faraci are just short of dismissive of the whole thing at this point and it has to do with the odd way Paramount is selling Thor almost as(as I see it) reverse gender a chick movie along the lines of Enchantment. With a harder bent on action, of course.
You're right, X-Men: First Class isn't a Marvel Studios joint, but it is part of the general Marvel onslaught (nerd rim-shot) for this summer; I tweaked it make it a little more accurate, thanks.
