Friday Box Office: Russell Brand's Hop Fends Off Russell Brand's Arthur For Number One

Shades of Jude Law! Audiences this Friday had their choice of unfunny Russell Brand comedies this weekend, but the bulk of them chose to stay with last weekend's champ, Hop, pushing Arthur to the number two slot. The strong, independent ladies of Hanna and Soul Surfer came in at four and five, respectively, while the dungeons 'n stoners comedy Your Highness got no higher than number five. Your Friday box office is here.

1. HOP: $5,500,000 (new)

2. ARTHUR: $4,800,000 (new)

3. HANNA: $4,200,000 (new)

4. SOUL SURFER: $4,000,000 (new)

5. YOUR HIGHNESS: $3,700,000 (new)

  • Go Hanna says:

Hanna vs. Sucker Punch: Hanna over-performs while Sucker Punch UNDER-performed. The difference being that girls see Hanna as a strong and empowered girl who doesn't need to walk around in lingerie and porn gear to kick butt. Sucker Punch alienated the female audience with their demeaning fetish uniforms. With Hanna both men and women enjoy the action and acting.

  • casting couch says:

Don't really think Sucker Punch was aimed at the tween girls demo anyway.

  • Brian says:

Fanboys were the target audience of Sucker Punch, and they like women in fetish outfits. Hanna is a much better movie than Sucker Punch, but I'm not sure that an ultraviolent teenage girl is a good example of female empowerment, unless your idea of empowerment is being just as violent as men.
