Have Tissues Handy Before You Watch the Trailer for Dolphin Tale
If watching Lars von Trier end the world by crashing another planet into Earth has you down, direct your attention to the trailer for Dolphin Tale. You probably didn't know the film existed before this very moment, but that doesn't mean it won't make you cry tears of happy.
Inspired by an "amazing true story," Dolphin Tale follows the efforts of a rag-tag group of B-listers (Harry Connick Jr., Ashley Judd, Kris Kristofferson) and Morgan Freeman as they attempt to save Windsor, a dolphin that lost its tail in a crab trap. That means creating a prosthetic and teaching Windsor how to swim again -- provided the dolphin wants to swim again.
It's all bathed in optimistic sunlight and crisp blue water -- plus the dulcet indie rock tones of U2 knock-off Golden State -- and since it comes from the producers of The Blind Side you pretty much know exactly what you're going to get. Too bad there doesn't appear to be any opportunity for a vintage Morgan Freeman voice-over. Perhaps over the closing epilogue?
VERDICT: Catch of the day! (Groan.)
